Singletons career-high leads FSU to victory

For the second time this season the Florida State Seminoles defeated the 18th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Seminoles survived a hard fought game that featured 20 different lead changes to come away with the 68-66 victory to improve to 15-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

"You have to give Georgia Tech a lot of credit they're a great basketball team and they challenge you on every play," FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "I thought our kids just stepped up and made one more play than they did, that gave us a chance to win."

By sweeping Georgia Tech it is only the second time in Florida State history that they have swept a ranked ACC opponent, the first was last season against Clemson. According to the polls it was an upset win for the Seminoles, but Hamilton said that in the ACC there is no such thing as an upset.

"I don't think any loss or win in the ACC is an upset, because I think that anything is capable of happening when two ACC teams show up," Hamilton said. "Regardless of if they're in the top spot or the bottom. I think that you can take the word ACC upset out of your vocabulary for this season. Because every game is what they call a white knuckle, it's one of those ball room brawls it seems like, very physical and very aggressive."

Trailing by one Florida State center Solomon Alabi stepped to line with just 22 seconds left in the game after being fouled pulling down a defensive rebound. His first shot bounced around the rim, but as it fell in, all 8,661 in attendance let out a collective sigh of relief. Alabi then stepped to the line and calmly made his second free throw to put FSU up 67-66.

After Alabi made his second free throw Georgia Tech was unable to convert on two scoring chances. Jordan DeMercy pulled down the defensive rebound for FSU after the Gani Lawal missed a jumper and was subsequently fouled. DeMercy missed his first attempt and made his second to put FSU up 68-66.

With three seconds left on the clock, Georgia Tech had one more chance. The Yellow Jackets opted for the full court heave and DeMercy came up with steal to seal the win for the Seminoles.

Offensively the 'Noles were lead by sophomore Chris Singleton, who had a career high 23 points to go along with seven rebound and two steals. The performance comes on the heels of a very poor offensive performance against Virginia Tech. Against the Hokies Singleton was just one of nine from the floor for two points. He bounced back from that performance Sunday night by shooting 9-of-17 from the floor.

"I think that he's more confident in his approach to the game. He doesn't get rattled, he's focused and he has a great feel for the game, and I think as his skills continue to improve on the perimeter I think you're going to see him make more and more contributions to our team."

Florida State returns to action Wednesday night as they travel to Durham, to take on the sixth ranked Duke Blue Devils (16-3) at 9:00 ET.
