Stewart gives FSU some good news

Warchant.com first reported a couple weeks ago that Lakeland defensive tackle Kendrick Stewart finally had a scholarship offer from Florida State. It didn't take long for the all-state prospect to give the Seminoles the good news they were hoping for. After an in-home visit from defensive line coach Odell Haggins this week, the 6-foot-1, 275-pound tackle made his commitment.

"He came into (my office) a while ago and he did commit," Lakeland coach William Castle said. "I just think all along he wanted to stay in-state and I think Florida State has been one of those that he just always liked."
Stewart picked the Seminoles over Iowa, UCF, Pittsburgh and others. Also, both Florida and Georgia were starting to show a strong interest but it doesn't appear as though he will be taking any more visits.
This past season Stewart racked up over 80 tackles (25 for loss) and six sacks despite constant double teams. In mid December his Lakeland team finished a perfect season by defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 31-7 in the 5A state title game. He followed that up with an outstanding performance in the CaliFlorida all-star game where he recorded five total tackles, with four of them going for loss including two sacks.
Stewart, a four-star prospect, runs the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds, has a max bench press of 425 and squats over 500 pounds. As a junior, he recorded 56 tackles and seven sacks on his way to earning all-state honors for Class 5A. He is already qualified and carries a 3.25 core GPA.
