FSU now leads for Powers with decision date looming

After an event-filled official visit, Powers said he, “had a good time out here” and will “most definitely” be back in Tallahassee to visit again.

The talented wideout named Florida State his leader and said he will make a decision in just a matter of days between his top four schools. FSU, Oregon State, Arkansas and Colorado are vying for the Texas product.

“Most definitely, they’re at the top of my list,” Powers said. “And I’ll be releasing my commitment July 3.”

The Duncanville, Texas, playmaker went on to explain what stands out about FSU compared to the other schools he is considering after his official visit.

“The people. From the coaching staff to the team to the environment. It was real different,” Powers said. “It really put the bar high.”

Powers said FSU's coaches told him he will “fit perfectly into the offense” due to his versatility. He met with many coaches on the staff but said he had the closest contact with head coach Mike Norvell, tight ends coach Chris Thomsen, offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and offensive line coach Alex Atkins.

“They keep it real. They treat you like family, even if you did just meet them,” Powers said. “So I really like them.”

Every prospect has factors he considers most important in his decision, and Powers is no different.

“Me going somewhere where I know I am going to play,” he said. “Where I am going to fit in and grow as a player and as a man.”

Thomsen has decades of experience coaching in the state of Texas at programs like Texas Tech and TCU. Because of that connection, Powers said he can trust Thomsen if he does end up heading across the country to Tallahassee.
