Florida State got some very good news -- and important momentum heading into the spring evaluation period -- when four-star defensive back Asante Samuel revealed on Thursday that he will be a Seminole.

Samuel, who narrowed his list to FSU and Miami over the weekend, said the Seminoles' coaches already have told him where he'll likely line up when he arrives in Tallahassee.

“They say they were going to use me a nickel and at corner a lot because I’m quick and have a lot of good instincts,” Samuel told Rivals.com. “They talk about how they’re going to play me a lot.”

The Seminoles were thought to be leading for Samuel for some time, but it wasn't until his mother visited campus for the first time last weekend that he knew he would be a Seminole.

"She loved it up here," Samuel told Warchant after the visit. "She said it's a family here and she liked it even more than she thought she would. It helped the 'Noles a lot."

The Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas standout becomes the Seminoles' eighth commitment for the 2018 class.

Samuel, whose father Asante Sr. played in the NFL from 2003-13, named Florida State his leader after a Nike camp and never wavered.

"I have a great relationship with the FSU staff, and I love how I feel when I'm there for a visit," Samuels told Warchant earlier. "Coach [Charles] Kelly is a great man, but also a coach I feel very comfortable with. So they certainly stand out a lot to me."

Samuel is considered one of the top overall targets on the board for the 'Noles. He also is the No. 3-rated cornerback in the country and No. 24 overall prospect.
