Two leaders for Jacksonville WR

At the wide receiver position the talk is usually centered around elite prospects like Fred Rouse, Larry Brackins or O.J. Murdock. Even though he doesn't get as much hype as those five and four-star recruits, Florida State is very interested in wideout Rod Owens. The sleeper from Jacksonville Wolfson High School was one of a dozen or so unofficial visitors in attendance at the FSU-Duke game on Saturday.
"It was good, I liked the atmosphere," Owens said of his trip.

This is the second time the 6-foot, 170-pound receiver has made the short trip from Jacksonville to Tallahassee. He hopes to do it again in a couple weeks when the Florida Gators come to Doak Campbell Stadium.
Owens, who is friends with freshman cornerback Tony Carter, has scheduled his official visit to FSU the weekend of January 7th. He will also trip to Maryland on December 10th. It just so happens that those are his favorite teams.
"I'm looking at Florida State, Maryland and South Carolina," he said. "FSU and Maryland are probably my favorites... I like the style of football they play."
Owens says how comfortable he is with the coaches and players will be the main factor in him making a final decision on a school.
Other schools to offer scholarships include Ole Miss, North Carolina, and NC State.
The all-state receiver is uncertain of his receiving statistics but estimates he has 13 touchdowns this season. As far as academics, he carries a 2.6 core GPA and should have no problems qualifying.
Wolfson will face Niceville for a first round matchup in the 5A state playoffs.
