It was a busy Saturday for the Florida State coaching staff, as the Seminoles conducted their final scrimmage before the spring game and also hosted several recruits for visits.
Among the big-time prospects on campus were four-star defensive back Jalen Harrell of Miami Central and a pair of four-star recruits from Oakleaf High in Orange Park, Fla. -- offensive lineman Jalen Rivers and defensive end Chantz Williams.
All three players raved about their time at Florida State and spoke with Warchant about their experiences and the Seminoles' scrimmage.
Four-star DB 'blown away' by two-day visit
Miami Central has certainly been very good to the Seminoles over the years, especially at the running back position, where the 'Noles have landed stars such as Devonta Freeman and Dalvin Cook.
Even last year, FSU was able to flip offensive lineman Maurice Smith from his commitment to Boston College when the 'Noles desperately needed help on the offensive line.
Now, the Seminoles are looking to the school for talent on the other side of the ball, and high on that list has to be four-star cornerback Jalen Harrell, who visited FSU over the weekend with his parents.
"Oh man, I was blown away," Harrell said. "I mean, it was everything that stood out. I can't even describe it. I loved it. I felt that family atmosphere from the start. It wasn't just the coaches, but all the people here. Like I said, it was everything. ...
"It's how they show it to you and make you feel like you are on the team right now. But it's also very personal when you are around the players, coaches. It's different here.'
Academics is a major priority to Harrell and his family, and he said Florida State's presentation in that area was exceptional. He currently is thinking about majoring in criminology, and he learned during the visit that FSU's criminology department is very highly respected nationally.
"The sports management program and criminology program here are outstanding," Harrell said. "One of the best in the nation. So I learned a lot about what they offer, and the specifics of the programs. That was very impressive to me."
Later in the afternoon, Harrell got to watch FSU's final spring scrimmage and saw up-close how his game might fit in with the Seminoles' defense.
"It was very physical," Harrell said. " There was a lot of high intensity. Lot of competing. FSU likes me as a corner in their defense. You have to be physical in this defense, and that fits me really well because that's my style of play in being able to cover, but also come up and strike."
The four-star cornerback and his parents actually spent two days in Tallahassee.
