Warchant Top 40: Our countdown continues with players 21-30

It’s time to continue our look at the 2020 Florida State football season with Warchant’s annual list of the top 40 players on the Seminoles' roster -- the players we expect to make the biggest impact for FSU in 2020. (Note: This is not necessarily the 40 most talented players, but the players we believe will have the opportunity and capability to make the biggest impact this season.)

This list is players ranked No. 21 to 30 in importance. The list of the players ranked No. 31 through 40 is available here.

The list was compiled through voting by Warchant’s Gene Williams, Ira Schoffel, Corey Clark and Aslan Hajivandi, along with ESPN-Tallahassee’s Jeff Cameron. The Top 40 will be revealed in segments.

Please be sure to watch the video below for a full conversation between the panelists on these 10 Seminoles and then read the capsules for each player, including expectations for this season.

No. 30 -- Redshirt freshman cornerback Travis Jay

One of the most heralded players in the 2019 recruiting class, Jay wasn't able to see the field at all during his first season because of eligibility issues. Those have been resolved, and now the Madison County product figures to be a contributing member of the Seminoles' secondary in 2020.

He's an explosive athlete who played quarterback and defensive back in high school. He stands 6-foot-2 and is listed at 188 pounds, and he was ranked as a four-star recruit when he signed with the Seminoles. The Florida State secondary is loaded with four- and five-star recruits, but Jay's unique size and speed could give him a chance to break through an experienced depth chart.

FSU's coaches plan to work with him at cornerback initially, although he could also end up at safety. He is expected to compete for a spot in the return game as well.

No. 29 -- Sophomore safety Raymond Woodie III

He played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2019, but mostly in spot duty and on special teams. He has the size, speed and football acumen to make a big leap in 2020. The son of former FSU assistant coach Raymond Woodie, Woodie III was a four-star recruit coming out of high school.

The sophomore is listed at 6 feet and almost 200 pounds and should earn additional playing time at safety in first-year coordinator Adam Fuller's defense. Though it was only three practices in the spring, Woodie III certainly looked at home in the new scheme. He made multiple interceptions and was one of the most active players on the entire defense.

No. 28 -- Redshirt sophomore receiver Warren Thompson

After two years of seeing very little action in the FSU offense (six catches total), Thompson certainly looked the part of a breakout star during the limited practices in the spring. He's listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, but in the drills against FSU's defensive backs he was moving like a slot receiver. His quickness in and out of breaks was on par with anyone else on the team. He also made a number of big-time catches down field.

Thompson, who briefly left the team a season ago, was one of the more impressive players on the entire offense during that small sample size in the spring. There are plenty of more experienced receivers on the roster, but If he can continue his accelerated improvement, Thompson could be a very big weapon for the Mike Norvell offense in 2020.
