I was able to read a link a poster on another board provided from the Democrat, referencing an issue that may or may not be bubbling near the surface at FSU. It created some questions for me, and if this is a subject the mod would rather not broach on this board, I apologize.

Should Dr. Barron be more involved with Athletics, at least as far as it goes with AD Spetman's one year extension, and a search for a new AD, and is it true that when former BOT Chair Haggard voiced certain things about conference affiliations this summer,  Barron found language that allowed him to have Haggard replaced?

I do agree that T.K. certainly had a different approach, but is this an instance when the ivory tower should properly visit the coaches' tower?

I wasn't sure how to take the article. I think Dr. Barron has done a pretty delicate job of balancing his role in athletics. I don't have any insider info, but I certainly wasn't surprised when Haggard got replaced as the chair of the trustees. Beyond that, I don't know enough about the inner workings from the athletic side to know what more he should be doing.

I thought Haggard's position had run its tenure at which time he was replaced?

This was my impression too. A "lame duck" with a few more months at the helm.

Glad you brought it up, goldmom. Hasn't been talked about here...and DynastyNole hasn't been around here in awhile, unfortunately.

Yes, it was known BEFORE the Big 12 incident that there would be a new chair at the next BOT meeting.

The above post in not true. While the chair's term had ended, it could have been renewed. A renewal was not supported, though Haggard offered to serve an addition term. The board handled the politically sensitive change very well. Bottom line: haggard's comments had embarrassed several members.

Interesting.  I knew his term COULD have been renewed, I was just under the impression that it was understood before that that he would likely not be remaining as chair.  Any information I get on that is second- or third-hand (at least), so the person I was discussing this with could have easily been misinformed or I could have misunderstood him, though.

Either way, the main point I wanted to convey was that Barron did not find some sneaky bit of language that allowed him to "get rid" of Haggard, Haggard's term had ended and the Board chose to go a different route, rather than renewing it.

My understanding is the same as Thugthrasher's.
