Things must be going well academically at FSU since 90% of the posts on this board were complaints.  Bring back TK to liven up the board!

Bring back TK?

Hmmm...no.  Barron is making things happen.  Not to mention the general lack of funds affects everything and complaining does little.  That FSU performs as well as it does with the funding it receives makes me want to call FSU the real Harvard of the South.  Imagine where the university would be with better funding.

In some strange part of my soul, I miss TK and the angst he engendered.

Browsing FSU's site I found...
  • Deviney and Dorman are going to being demolished and two new dorms will go up. There's also a second phase for another two new dorms after that.
  • Conradi is going to be demolished next year to make room for the new business building. Maybe it's closer to being funded than we think.
  • They created a couple new degree programs, but they were all for the PC campus. I don't like the PC campus.
  • They axed the graphic design program, which seems odd to me. I thought graphic art would be more popular than studio art. It seems like more employable degree too.
  • NSF released new R&D data. FSU was down $7 million in 2011 and fell 5 spots to 89.

Any timeline on Dorman and Deviney? That will certainly be a good upgrade.

I've heard that Conradi was going to be demolished "next year" for that purpose since Biology moved to the King building. I hope that you've heard something better and more imminent-- I'm guessing that they probably had to spend a long time in Conradi cleaning it of toxic issues before they could demolish it.

There was no timeline on the dorms, they were just getting approval. I found the thing about Conradi on the facilities site. All it said was Conradi was being demolished in June 2013. I assumed it was in preparation for the business building since that's where it's supposed to go. Didn't think they would demolish a building if it was just going to remain a vacant lot for many years.

I don't recall where I heard this (probably an article in the Democrat) but Conradi will be demolished and turned into a parking lot until FSU/the Business school is ready to break ground on the new business building.  It won't be pretty but at least they are moving in the right direction.

Conradi must be a terrible building then if a parking lot is a better option. I've never been inside inside it. A parking lot sounds more reasonable I guess

I learned recently that FSU did not own the Conradi Building or the land that it sits on.  I think they purchased it from the Florida Geological Society recently.  So, it makes some sense that they will demolish and prepare it until the funds come in for the Business building.

Actually it was the Gunter building at the corner of Woodward and Tennessee that belonged to the Florida Geological Society and the Florida Geological Survey.  FSU now controls that land and has plans to build a Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science building.

President Barron gave a good update on this project in his President's Report at the beginning of the recent Board of Trustees meeting.  Check it out!

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.
