looked through the board and didn't see one already so i thought i'd start one.

i'm really hoping the MUFC deal for Kagawa goes through... and still holding out hope for Hazard as well, despite his very ambiguous hint (that everyone automatically has assumed is for chelsea).

reading lots of rumors about Baines for LB also. we need to really solidify the midfield and back line.

Chelsea getting Hazard and Hulk is pretty ridiculous.
6/1 2:59 PM | IP: Logged
I hope The Arsenal can hold on to RVP. Amazing what Bambi can do when he's healthy all season long. Adding Podalski (sp?) can't hurt, either.

The Swans manager moving to Merseyside has to be a blow to the Wales side. He did great work with limited resources.

Will be interesting to see where Dempsey goes.  As much as I dislike them, I think Arsenal would be a great fit for him.  Wenger's style is a great compliment to what Klinsmann is trying to do.

Hazard announced on his twitter he's going to Chelsea; not ambiguous.
6/1 8:02 PM | IP: Logged Dempsey should go to Malaga in Spain IMHO. Perfect fit.

I don't get the Kagawa obsession he was worth half this last year. I think United should sign Sneijder who is down to the Manchester clubs.

Arsenal supposedly has to sign a star to keep van Persie, Podolski helps but not enough. Some good French guys available to help but they need a great CB too.

Euros should provide plenty of transfer talk!

I like Tagawa going to United. He is a play making MF who can create and set up space/goals for Rooney/Welbeck/Hernandez. Tagawa can also score. I was hoping that MUCF would sign Sneijder last year, and I am glad that they didn't because his best days are behind him.

Hazard is a great signing for Chelsea, but I am not sold on Hulk. The style of play in England is alot more physical. Porto want 50 million euros for him, but only got around 38 million because no one else was bidding for him. To start off, Torres will be the featured forward, so Hulk will probably play wide. He is a great passer, maybe he opens the doors for Torres.

Hazard is only 21 and I would have liked United sign him.

The problem I have with Hulk is he is best on the right side, but to me that takes space away from Ramires who is also best on the right and Hazard is a stronger on the right side as well (my preference is to see Mata in the middle).

That's a lot of people on the one side without including a RB (rumoured to be going after G. Van der Weil).

Not sure how Marko Marin fits in then with Hulk as well.

Without Hulk I see a 4-2-3-1 lineup of Lampard (playing much deeper now) and Ramires deep (although I'm not a fan of Ramires in the deep middle -> much prefer him in a more attacking/forward role) with Marin-Mata-Hazard in the attacking midfield with Torres up front.  Still have Sturridge in reserve as a sub in either a wide or centre forward (along with Lukaku -> although to me he's better in the middle).  Have Mikel and Essien available to be a deep MF option as well.

Still would like to see a traditional MF player like Luku Modric come aboard, but not sure that is a possibility anymore -> to me he'd be perfect to partner with Lampard in the deep middle (the way he did for Spurs this year with Scott Parker when they were IMO most effective as a club).

Chelsea seems to be set up with youth at all other positions other than the deep MF and setup players so Mata and Hazard can be the playmakers/attackers that they naturally are.

My son said he read online last night on some British footie website that Arsenal is expected to make a try for Dempsey. WTF?
6/2 7:39 PM | IP: Logged Yeah arsenal has scouted Dempsey before but he'll barely play there.

Rumors are Ramirez is on the bench now and none too pleased, not in starting plans now.

United has signed Crewe attacking midfielder Nick Powell for 4 million. For those who watched the League 2 playoff, Powell scored that great first goal.

"Manchester United looked like the favorites all along to sign striker Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra over the summer transfer window, and the Red Devils have finally gotten their man.Despite rumors that Chelsea were looking to sign Powell, as well as Arsenal attempting to lure him to the Emirates, the Red Devils have agreed on a fee for the 18-year-old according to the Inside Futbol and the Crewe Chronicle. After leading Crewe to League One promotion with an outstanding 16 goals last season, Powell has been the subject of much discussion and was always under the watchful eye of Sir Alex Ferguson as he sought to bring the teenager to Old Trafford.

The fee is expected to cost United an initial 4 million with the potential for up to 2 million more through add-ons and contract extras.

After scoring a sensational goal in the playoff final against Cheltenham that saw Crewe qualify for League One next season, Powell no doubt has the attacking talent and ability to be a future star at Old Trafford and join the rich history of strikers that have played for Manchester United. Some are saying that Powell could well be sent back to Crewe on loan by the Red Devils, who already boast great depth in their squad.

However, this seems unlikely to happen, with the most likely option appearing that he will begin to train and learn the Manchester United way as soon as possible.

Arse fans, you guys are quiet on the Lukas Podolski signing.
6/3 4:25 PM | IP: Logged

Dirk Kuyt leaves Liverpool for Fenerbahce.

Liverpool confirmed the move, saying: 'Liverpool FC can confirm that Dirk Kuyt has advised the club that he has today reached an agreement with Fenerbahce SK over a move to Turkey, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the next few days.'

The player later added on Twitter: 'I'd like to thank everyone I've worked with at LFC and specially [sic] my teammates. Also I'd like to thank the supporters for there [sic] great support.'

Kuyt, who had a year to run on his Anfield contract, had been expected to leave Merseyside this summer, despite the departure of Dalglish, after a season in which he scored just two Premier League goals.

He claimed last week he had attracted interest from a host of clubs across Europe.

Manch, it excites me, but can he work alongside RVP, assuming he stays?
6/3 5:26 PM | IP: Logged I watch a lot of arsenal, I think so. He's a great passer, unselfish and has great movement and work rate. Podolski won't score 30 goals but I think he'll help take attention off van Persie.

To me the arsenal question is when do they finally unload the enigma Walcott and sign a star for the money?

I think this might happen during this summer's transfer season. Oxley-Chamberlain will end up making people forget Walcott, and soon.
6/3 8:22 PM | IP: Logged I like Oxlade a lot and agree he should start. I meant a star in center mid or at center back.

Cahill may move to a rich middle east team. As an Everton fan I'll offer to pay his flight. That would open some wages and then they have two tough calls to make on Fellaini and Baines.

Not epl related but us striker Terrence Boyd signed a 3 year deal with Rapid Vienna, they're in Europa this summer. I like the move as he wasn't playing in Dortmund which was odd since their coaches claimed to love his upside. He needs playing time and hell get it.

Well, with the off-season signings of both Podolsky and Giroux, is Arsenal accepting the fact the RVP is gone?
6/26 9:28 AM | IP: Logged
I'm wondering the same thing.
6/26 10:29 AM | IP: Logged Yes. Wenger didn't like to be told what to do by rvp and with his injury history, age, and the fact he had no break this summer I think it's a genius move if he can get a good price for him. And say rvp wants to come back now he has no leverage of being the only good striker on the roster. If Arsenal signs MVilla and a center back what a great summer and bright future they have with Wilshere also coming back.

Posted on 6/26 6:32 PM | IP: Logged

I think it's as likely that this Giroud signing was b/c Walcott will be sold, as it is that RVP will be.

Walcott's 1/10th the player that Van Persie is, but he's English and teams will grossly overpay for English players...and Walcott's in the same contract position that van Persie is - last year of his contact (I think).

I think that would be a great move for Arsenal too. Walcott has virtually no skill - just speed. He's exactly the same as all those sprinters who always get NFL tryouts. You think "they just gotta be able to translate that speed into productivity," but they can't. Neither can Theo.
6/26 8:17 PM | IP: Logged I dont get Walcott either. He's had enough time to prove he's not good enough, move on.

Not a head case like Balotelli, but he definitely isn't short on confidence.  I wouldn't worry too much, he's better than Chamak.

Yeah, you could see this coming when they got two new strikers, Podalski and Giroud. Saddens me a little, as RVP was a great player for us, but he too sees that Wenger's style isn't going to win any silver. On the other hand, his injury history makes it hard to invest the money he'd probably have wanted anyway.

Me, I'll enjoy the memories and wish him luck elsewhere (as long as he goes somewhere outside the EPL).

Man, I just got through reading a story on the eminent collapse of the Scottish Premier League. Seems Rangers went bankrupt and were demoted to Division 3, and now their new owner wants permission for the "New" Rangers to start out in Division 1. Rest of the clubs voted against the idea, even though this might mean they're next to go under. Really screwed up. Players fleeing and TV contracts liable to be torn up as well. Seems sad.
7/5 9:17 AM | IP: Logged
Sky has said they will honor the current tv contracts for the SPL.  But if Rangers isn't back by the renewal, then their new contract will be minimal.

"3 Lung" Park leaving United for QPR! This actually saddens me. He's one of the few Devils I liked. Great work ethic. He said h was swayed by Rangers' plans for the future. Sounds like they may be spending now that they've stayed up. Transfer fee is only 2 million Euros, which seems low to me for a player of his caliber.
7/7 9:35 AM | IP: Logged Yeah his value is 7 million, however United are ecstatic to find a small club to take his 70k plus week new salary as of last year off their hands so they were happy with 2 million.

United cutting lots of youngsters too lately which is interesting, as was the loss of a highly rated teen to Juventus who didn't want to stay.

Sad to Park leave, but now he'll get the playing time he deserves. I read that Mark Hughes is going to name him captain. Fabio was loaned out to QPR for the season. Paul Pogba left United for Juvi. It's odd that a 19 year old player can already leave on a free transfer, I think he was pissed that United wouldn't pay him what he wanted (I think it was $125K a week). I am excited to see Kagawa play this year and I read that United is close to acquiring Brazilian MF Lucas Moura (for about 30 million pounds). Also on United's radar is RVP and Lucas Modric. Interesting to see Berbatov still at United.

Newcastle trying to get Carroll back on loan and buy option. Seems like Rodgers has zero confidence that Andy can succeed in his system. I like Carroll and think with the right system he can do well but I agree that he probably wont have success under Rodgers and his 433.

Rumor mill: Berbalazy to Galatasaray. Finalists for RVP appear to be Juve, Citeh and United. But now rumors swirl he may stay a Gunner?
7/22 9:38 AM | IP: Logged
Bradley scores the first goal in Roma's 2-1 win over the Scousers, and plays well overall. And MLS All-Stars beat Chelsea 3-2. All in all, a good night of footie.
7/26 10:20 AM | IP: Logged
Now that Citeh appears out of the RVP sweepstakes, the question needs to be asked: Did Van Persie screw the pooch by announcing that he would NOT resign with Arsenal regardless? Once he went public with that, his trade value dropped precipitously as other teams new the Gunners badly needed to move him. Wenger appears to be willing to wait it out. What say you guys?
8/6 3:36 PM | IP: Logged
I think he either goes to Juve or leaves next summer on a free.
8/7 1:21 AM | IP: Logged Arsenal: I realize the RVP saga needs to end and their CBs are terrible but they've added three players who fit their style perfectly. Podolski, Giroud and Carzola are tremendous signings and I think all worth their solid but not outrageous price.
Wilshere is basically a new super signing too I think Arsenal is gonna have a great season if it figures a decent defense out. Should be a very exciting brand of football at Emirates compared to the last few.

Arsenal's starting CB pairing of Vermalean and Koscielny are easily one of the top 3 cb pairs in the prem. Not sure how anyone that watches the prem could/would call them terrible.

Now their fullbacks on the other hand, are a disaster, especially on the left. RB was solid but 2 broken legs for Sagna and the worst player I've ever seen in england, bar none, Carl Jenkinson, make the RB very weak as well. I expect them to get torched on the wings all year.
8/7 2:17 PM | IP: Logged
I think Vermaelean is solid despite his injury problems the last few years and his barely being 6 foot for a center back in the EPL(Richards and few others are strong enough and great enough on def headers to offset this), but Koscielny is horrible and Mertesaker looked lost his first season. If Arsenal is serious about a Trophy you can't start Koscielny and settle for Mertesacker because your first several choices declined.

Sure the wing backs need to get better but IMHO their CBs flat out aren't good enough or big and physical enough.

I appreciate your opinion, and 12 months ago, it was pretty accurate,,,but now, just a year later, the guy is is excellent. When he arrived, he wasn't, not by a longshot, but he's arguably the most improved player in the Prem. and frankly, he's probably eclipsed Vermalaen now. Really, I know it sounds silly, but his improvement was nothing short of incredible. I think it helped a lot that he was the only real everyday CB w/verm, mert, and djouru all having long injury spells, and also Czeszny made everyone better. That kid was nails last year.

I expect Mertesacker to improve this year, similar to the way it took kocs a year to adjust to the prem...but not by as much since mert is molasses by comparison.

In other CB news, I'm glad Vidic is back. I love that guy. Imposing hulk of a defender w/the dolph lundgren face to match the part he plays.
8/7 6:49 PM | IP: Logged
Fair enough.  I can tell you the own goals, marking, and clearance issues still ring in my mind with him from last season, but we'll see this season how he does.  Certainly Arsenal can not give up that  many goals again and do anything constructive.

Interestingly, Arsenal shopped Koscielney this summer before Euros when they were talking to many center backs, before he signed a new contract.  I'm not sure if they really wanted to get rid of him or they just wanted to pressure him to extend or be shipped out for a replacement.

8/8 12:18 PM | IP: Logged
Allegedly Barca sniffed around. When they do, you gotta listen, don't you?

How do you think Kagawa's going to do at United? Good friend of mine is a Dortmund supporter. We watched a lot of his matches last year. That guy is a wicked talent! With him at ManU, Cazorla at Arsenal, Hazard at Chelsea, among others, there are some really exciting players coming into the Prem this year.
8/8 3:48 PM | IP: Logged
I expect SAF to use Kagawa in an every other type of game starting role behind the strikers.  Kagawa had two years of injuries until last season and coming to the EPL that's not a great recipe so I don't think they'll over use him which is good in his first EPL season. I think he'll do fine, solid player, but I don't think he's world class yet and United kind of settled for him because they didn't want to spend more for bigger names.  Honestly reminded me of an Arsenal move from the last decade, solid but not ambitious as a lone signing IMHO.

I like Cazorla a bit better in his fit with Arsenal, and I love Hazard anywhere.

Everton has had a great off season IMHO, pretty excited.

Naismith and Pienaar in, Ross Barkley in the fold, Cahill out!  Just wish they'd have sold Rodwell, but off an injury they'll get more for him this winter or next summer if he can stay healthy.  Everton got a lot better when Rodwell went down so starting lineup should be interesting in a week or two.

Funny end to this article...

""I find it quite amazing that a club can pay 45 million for a 19-year-old boy," he said.... When somebody's paying 45 million for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad."

From Wikipedia;

Manchester United
2004?05 season
Rooney's agent snubbed a three-year, ?12,000-a-week contract offer from Everton in August 2004, leaving Manchester United and Newcastle United to compete for his signature. Everton rejected a bid of ?20 million from Newcastle,[59] and Manchester United ultimately won the bidding war with Rooney signing for them at the end of the month after a ?25.6 million deal with Everton was reached.[60] It was the highest fee ever paid for a player under 20 years old; Rooney was still only 18 when he left Everton.[61]

Wait a second....When adjusting for inflation and currency conversions, that's pretty much precisely what YOU did, SAF...for an 18-yr old, no less!

Very exciting Community Shield today. Unfortunately, it looks like we have more of the same when the Premier officials do their thing on the field. Chelsea went a man down right before halftime on a very weak red card, and that basically was the game, though City looks like they haven't missed a beat from last season.

I read the other day where Mancini said United should be favored and City will prolly finish 3rd or 4th. LMAO. He must've attended the Vince Dooley School of Poormouthing Prognostication.

Welcome back, footie!
