I thought it was a clear red lucky he didn't end his season IMHO. I just want to see that called all season now, I better not see a yellow for that next week.

Rodwell sold to City for 12 mill pounds! What a coup Moyes has pulled. Love it!

Hope they bank some of the money and purchase a teenager and maybe loan an extra mid from City.

Rodwell, Cahill sold.

Fellaini injured to start the season.

Baines constantly a transfer target, possibly gone any day.

No one brought in, as usual.

Looks like a really bad year shaping up for the good Liverpool guys.
8/14 7:13 PM | IP: Logged Totally disagree, Everton got red hot last year and strengthened what it started.
Cahill was horrible last year and had to go, and Rodwell is not a loss, everton are much more fluid without him. And it has the top teenage central mid in the EPL in Ross Barkley who everyone will know after this season. Barkley is too good to lose minutes to both Rodwell and Gibson this season.

Fellaini has a new deal and should be fit for Monday, pienaar has a new deal back where he belongs. Jelavic, the steal of the EPL last season outside the Newcastle striker is primed for a huge season.

Jagielka finally fit to start a season, Baines isn't a distraction ManU are just being cheap hoping everton cuts a few mill off but they'll prob keep him now which I hope they do.
Naismith was a solid addition who will get some starts off striker with their young guys.
In all and without Europe as a distraction this is Evertons best team in years. If they're ever gonna contend for CL and at least make Europa its this season.
Id take Everton over Liverpool for the first time in memory this season today.
Just gotta start well something Moyes has been abysmal at doing

Solid post.

We disagree on Rodewll to be sure, but you will certainly look right for the forseeable future either way b/c he's going to get a bout 6 minutes - all in the Carling Cup - at City, for the next several YEARS.  Has there ever been a less necessary purchase than this one?  I do think he's a very good player though...but to each his own.

Cahill's career suggests he's not a horrible player...and few are/were as clutch as him in the Prem over the last few years.  It seems the only goals he scored were winners. Anyway, he's gone, so on with it.

Fellaini...I thought his injury was more serious.  If he's back Monday, ignore my comment.  I thought it was like late-September he was coming back.  My bad.

I like the little I've seen of Barkley. Too early to tell if he's the player you think he'll be, but excited to find out.

Jelavic is going to Chamakh...watch.  Hope I'm wrong. I really like Everton.

What about Straquiliersiessimessiissii?  Is he still there, or was that just an end of season loan?  He played really well in the matches I saw. Also, did they sell Bilyatidnov (sp?) I liked him too, but he seemed to disappoint when Straq came on strong.

Soccernet saying Manchester United and Arsenal have agreed to terms on a RVP sale.  RVP just has to pass a medical and agree to personal terms.

Damn--didn't want him to end up in the Prem. Oh well...maybe he'll return to his Bambi ways there.

All these posts have got me itching for Saturday and the first games. Would love to US to beat Mexico tonight to really kick start my excitement.
8/15 3:16 PM | IP: Logged

RVP gone, Song on his way too. 4th place Liverpool, CL footy. Get in.
8/15 4:32 PM | IP: Logged Daener,
Yes Straqua still there he will get some minutes for sure, the Russian Billya is gone.

Cahill went 13 months without scoring then had a monstrous 2 goals in 35 appearances last season.

Rodwell isn't horrible IMHO I just don't rate him more than 5 million like many English teams obviously did. And national team interest I don't get.

Should be a fun season

Song will be missed, RVP not so much. He had an outstanding season--a season that was a fluke by his standards at the Emirates. He's always getting hurt and missing months at a time. Giroux and Podalski (sp on both) will be satisfactory replacements, I think.

Livepool finishing 4th? Got sad news for you. Everton will finish ahead of the Scouse Peasants. As will several others. I see no Europe in the Reds' future.

RVP led the league in goals last season. Not missed lmao. Podolski has problems playing well for anybody outside of Cologne and Giroud is an unkown to EPL. And we're getting Sahin this week. Care to make a bet on whether or not the bitters finish above the mighty Reds in the table?
8/15 5:31 PM | IP: Logged
Song Is terrible. If they can sell him for the prices rumored,Gunners would be crazy not to.

Walcott too!

I'f arsenal dump song, theo, and diaby...this would be the best offseason they've ever had, even w/RVP sold

No wagers, my friend. I know as much about EPL footie as I do the Calculus. I just know what I like, which is Gunners football when they're on their game. Plus, my experience with Liverpool fans makes them just about the equivalent of Gates. As much as I also dislike City, United and Chelsea, their fans have always been courteous and friendly around me. Pool fans leave a bitter taste in my mouth. No offense intended in your direction, mind you.

Where is Manch these days? This thread is screaming for his input.

RVP going to United is sickening.  I hope his season sucks.  Arsenal still 0-0 in second half now.
8/18 11:30 AM | IP: Logged
I hope the media doesn't blame the Arsenal players for today's dismal start.  That's on Wenger.

He starts Podolski in the center of a 4-3-3?  Giroud on the bench who is that target guy and Van Persie replacement(should have scored late but only one short appearance) Then Wenger goes ultra defensive with Gervinho/Walcott tracking back out wide, both enigmatic and not scorers though I know Oxlade is out, and Diaby/Arteta in midfield, neither much of a threat near goal.  Podolski should be out wide, that's his position on this team.  So that leaves Corzola, who looked good, and Podolski out of position, who looked bad.  And oh yes, no help from wing backs Jenkinson/Gibbs who didn't do anything going forward apparently by design. IT was like a lineup and tactics you'd use playing at a big club, opposite of what Arsenal should be doing.

Of course the large problem with Arsenal lacking goal scorers, is that their books are paying a ton of them: Bendtner, Chamakh, Arshavin.  Sell all 3 and buy another scorer who can play wide or central.  If you want a defensive lineup you have to start Giroud in center, Podolski wide and Oxlade wide when he's back.  And they should have sold Walcott and kept Miyachi not loaned him again.

Only one game, I was just shocked by Wenger's strange tactics today and wondering why he won't sell his expensive benched strikers.  Cut the price and move on.

Minutes after the draw today, arsenal.com has confirmed Song's transfer to Barca.
8/18 12:17 PM | IP: Logged
figured, that's even more money to get a versatile striker. Too bad Cavani is outrageously priced he plays this system already up front.
8/18 4:10 PM | IP: Logged
Wenger has said that he's already replaced RvP.  I doubt they sign a striker.  They'll probably get another mid and a defender.
8/18 5:04 PM | IP: Logged Everton with a fantastic signing of Mirallas from Greece, top scorer in that league 5.4 mill of Rodwell money. Bank the rest towards new stadium now.

Barca w/Jordi Alba, Song, and then Villa back, had arguanly the best offseason (so far). What do you guys think?
8/21 2:01 PM | IP: Logged

The Chavs, not even close.
8/21 2:35 PM | IP: Logged
Chavs?

PSG.

8/22 11:34 AM | IP: Logged

Jury's out on PSG.  They could be Man City...take a few years for all that talent to gel. Maybe another manager or two before they get it figured out. They could also be a disaster w/a sulking Ibra doing a Tevez redux if things don't go his way. If they don't win the title in France after all that spending AGAIN (like Montpellier pipped them last year) then I'd imagine there will be some unhappy mofo's there.

Losing Drogba is huge.  Plus, how's Torres going to fair? Hard not to be impressed by the faces they do now have, but I think they're not the clear winner.

Barca basically upgraded Song over Keita...or at worse, pushed. Alba's a huge talent (I think), and w/Abidal gone for the forseeable future, and Puyol having done spot duty at fullback, among others, that's a giant upgrade. And David Villa was already in the fold so him back will be a smooth transition.  Barca just tweeked an already legendary lineup.  For that reason, I see them as the best offseason so far...but PSG and Chelsea too, can't argue w/those choices.

Who had the worst?

I'm not sure.  Seems like Spurs could end up pretty bad off when it's all over. Losing Modric.  Adebayor still not signed, and then when he is they're going to be stuck w/Adebayor on their squad. Haha.  Also, what's up w/Van der Vaart?  Thought he wanted out.  He didn't start this weekend either, did he?

Seems silly...but possibly City too?  Rodwell in.  Adam Johnson out.  Really? I mean I guess they were Prem champs, so hard to argue w/who they have, but that seems strange there weren't more changes.

After watching the Chavs steal another win, I note that officiating in the EPL clearly hasn't improved. There has GOT to be some way to have at least limited to replay to get it right.

Is there a more worthless, overhyped, under-deliverer in football over the last 6 years? I think not.

If Arsenal's able to get 5 mil or more...ring the damn register! 15-18 mil?!?!?! That's hilarious!

Yep. We were watching, and my son said, "Isn't it about time for Howard Webb to give Sir Alex his traditional game winning PK?" About 5 minutes later, there it was.

Of course, it couldn't happen to a sweller bunch of people than the Scouse Peasants.

Is it just me, or does the fact the Hispanic gets 8 while the white guy gets 4 sound inherently racist?

It's an utter embarrassment how the so called best footy league in the world is run. How Siere A are the only major league to be investigated is beyond belief. It's pretty obvious how much the FA is trying to hand another league title to scum, while Liverpool is public enemy number 1, and will be so until they accomplish their goal of getting Liverpool relegated. How is David Gill allowed to be the vice president of the FA while being a member of the scum board of directors is crazy. Furthermore, I don't expect them to charge Everton for their fans throwing missels at Liverpool players, but to suspend Luis Suarez until atleast January for stealing 50 cents from an Everton supporter.

Linesman in the Derby game should be sent down to League 2.

Clattenburg will be lucky to find a job anywhere if the accusations from today are true.  Although Fergie's probably got a nice pension set up for him.

What's with Inter sitting Sneijder until he takes a paycut? Maybe United can pick him up in the January transer window for cheap, even though his better days are really, really behind him, but maybe a change of scenes will help him. Can't be worse than Torres to Chelsea for $50 million. If Sneijder can be had for $10 million, I'd bite. I think Real is trying to dump Kaka' in the fashion that the Yanks are trying to dump ARod.

we may have to, now with Anderson getting hurt. just as he was getting on great form again. ugh! i feel like we have an injury curse... especially in the midfield.

if we could only sell off Nani and Young, bring in Sneijder, Rodriguez, and a defender. we'll be fortified.

No more. Gotze was purchased from Bayern today and it goes through at the end of the summer. My god Bayern is loaded. Gotze is a world class talent.

Yea, it's unfortunate. Dortmund finally had a nice core in place. Lewandowski is going to the EPL, just a matter of where.

Didn't hear the Hummels rumor to Barca, but figured he's be targeted. They just signed Marco Reus, but I'd be willing to bet he is gone in a year or two.
