very sad, his posts were always full of wisdom and genuine love and concern. I found myself heeding advice all the time from his words.
May the Lord of Heaven comfort his family and friends in this time of grief.

You fought the good fight Larry, now rest in peace as you are now in a better place.

Posted on 4/21 6:40 AM | IP: Logged

Like so many others here, I was at one time the beneficiary of Larry's encouragement when I was facing my own health challenges. Even though he had way more than his own fair share of problems, he never seemed to let it dampen his spirit and he was always one of the first to be there for those who needed a little morale boost. His grit, determination, and his positive outlook served as a true inspiration to me and many others here.

I am so thankful that his suffering is finally ended and he is finally resting peacefully, but he will genuinely be missed.

Wow, I am just stunned.

Larry, the world just lost one of the good guys. You will be sorely missed, and I know you are finally at peace and without pain and suffering.

God bless Larry and his entire family, our prayers are with you in this time of sadness.

Posted on 4/21 6:52 AM | IP: Logged

This is heartbreaking.

You put up one heck of a fight! RIP Larry!

My prayers are with his family.

Posted on 4/21 7:30 AM | IP: Logged

Well damn. I just got the email from Pam and I have to say that was a bad way to start the day. RIP Larry.

There is a war somewhere
and I have to go!
Not armed nor leading,
just following the path of death
from afar
old, and 'back home'.
Late at night
thinking,
and alone.
Mostly I think of 'Doc'!
The guy who fought for life!
The guy who had to remove his glasses when we pushed
into the unknown 'bush'.
who gave and gave
to save the wounded and the brave.
Just Doc!
the very bravest of us all.
The Corpsman,
the Medic..
always standing
tall !

Rest in peace, Larry.

My deepest sympathies to closest friends and family members.

Posted on 4/21 7:54 AM | IP: Logged

One of the greatest guys that I never had the pleasure to actually meet.

The world will miss you, Larry.

Posted on 4/21 8:13 AM | IP: Logged

Farewell, Larry. We will miss you.

Posted on 4/21 8:27 AM | IP: Logged

Agree with everything said here. I never met him either but he sure seemed like a stand up guy.

RIP Larry. Thoughts with Pam and your friends.

Posted on 4/21 8:42 AM | IP: Logged

Only Nozzle knows this, but on behalf of my fellow brothers at our organization usparatroopers.us, he made Larry an Honorary member of the Airborne Brotherhood on our site and have inducted him into our wall of hero's.

RIP Doc. This Paratrooper is gonna miss ya.

Posted on 4/21 8:49 AM | IP: Logged

I only hope that when my time comes that I would have made the same type of impact on the world as Larry did. I only knew him through his posts, I never personally e-mailed him or met him in person. Why do I have tears in my eyes. That shows how great a man he is, that people who barely knew him were impacted deeply.

This place just won't be the same without his wit.

Posted on 4/21 8:53 AM | IP: Logged

I wish I had met you Mr. Prez! My heart is breaking for Pam. Larry was such a thoughtful and kind person. He will be missed daily! My prayers are with Larry's family.

RIP Soldier!

I think word for word kc just nailed what I was going to say.

I heard a pastor once say that when you finally know your worth, you won't be around to see it. Those who would cry at your funeral would show the world how valuable you were. Larry, even though most of us didn't get to meet you in life, and won't be able to be there when you are returned to this earth, know that you will be remembered and your value is incalculable as there will be many, many people who cry at your funeral.

RIP Delta doc, don't forget to check in on us from time to time, and don't get too carried away with the blondes up there Pam will join you one day and that reunion will be a great event.

I agree with everything you said. I hope one day I have impacted so many people the way Larry has.

Posted on 4/21 9:08 AM | IP: Logged

I saw an email in my inbox last night from Pam. The moment I saw it, I had a gut feeling that it wasn't good news.

Larry was a special and unique guy and I feel fortunate I had the opportunity to meet him in December 2007 while I was home in Dallas visiting friends.

Rest in peace Larry. You'll be missed.

RIP Doc

thoughts and prayers with the family...

Posted on 4/21 9:10 AM | IP: Logged

I am so sorry.
What a sweet, kind hearted man.
Sending prayers.

Posted on 4/21 9:17 AM | IP: Logged

I never had the pleasure of meeting Larry in person like so many, but I know we lost a good one. Hopefully Army can pull one out this year over Navy and we know that Larry will have a great seat for that one!

Prayers to his family during this time.

Posted on 4/21 9:32 AM | IP: Logged

As many others have said, I never got a chance to meet Larry but that did not mean I did not know him and that he didn't know me. It is amazing how people you can meet on a message board can have an impact on your life. When I was going through a divorce a few years back, Larry (and others on this board, you know who you are) would email me to keep my head up and that everything would be alright. He was right. Next week I am getting married to a woman who is unbelievable and the best thing to ever happen to me.

Larry you will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to Pam and the rest of the family and friends who need them at this time. I look forward to someday actually meeting Larry face to face.

Posted on 4/21 9:37 AM | IP: Logged

A Viet Nam Medic. Thanks....from the guys.

Posted on 4/21 9:56 AM | IP: Logged

You can really feel how Larry touched so many people on this board, and he will be missed. R. I. P. Larry.

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

...
For through from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Goodbye, Larry, I know you're seeing your Pilot now that you've crossed the bar.

Posted on 4/21 10:15 AM | IP: Logged

I'm usually just a lurker, but the little time I've been on this site, I could tell what a great man he was. R.I.P.

Posted on 4/21 10:16 AM | IP: Logged

It's easy to tell when a person has a genuine impact on those he comes in contact with.

Reading this thread, I've found myself, a 30 something year old man, having to shut the door of my office so my coworkers won't see the tears in my eyes. This after reading the responses from people I never met, honoring a great man I never met.

Hopefully he knew the impact he had on all of us, whether he met us or not.

RIP Larry.

RIP Larry! Prayers to Pam and Family!

I sure wish I could've met you, Sir! Now go enjoy you some blonde angels in Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting this hero in Dallas.

A Soldier's Prayer:

The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here...
They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod...
As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you soldier,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. The fact that so many people, me included, were touched by someone they never met says more than words can express. Larry's family and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.

I feel the same way. I never got the chance to meet Larry either, but judging by all the posts, he was certainly loved and admired by many here in the LR.

RIP, Mr. President. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to tell him in the Locker Room Appreciation thread how special his contributions to this board were for so many years, and to thank him for it. My thoughts and prayers are with Pam and family.

If you ever heard Larry's voice, you knowit was DISTINCT! I can hear that raspy, crackly laugh now as I'm sitting here. He'd probably say "What the heck are you crin' for?"

Dammit, I miss him.

I never heard his voice, but I alwasys felt his love. Larry was a great person and all of us truly loved him. Pam, I am so sorry for your loss.

Wow, so much truth in that.

When Larry returned from Vietnam, he was spat on and treated like a war criminal by the general public. So many of his brethren did as well. However, Larry worked tirelessly to help those that had difficulty adjusting to life back in the US. He helped build the hutch at Lake Ella for veterans to gather, went to homes to defuse situations that were getting out of hand (even to the point of getting shot at), and participated in so many events to honor the fallen and advocate for those without a voice.

He gave so much, even to the end. He had been mostly in than out of the hospital over the last several months, but still found time to send me a note expressing his condolences.

This man, though we'd never met face to face, told me something I've never heard from my own father - that he loved me. And I him.

Damn, Damn, Damn.

RIP Doc. The following you had on this board, by people you had never met (myself included) is a tribute to the man you were. I know you will be watching over the LR from above and keeping everyone in line.
