I've been off the board for a few days and come back to this. I truely loved Semper! When I was getting cut down Semper would come by and post "I've always liked TNN". He made me feel better as well as made me laugh. I'm in shock. Keep things in line in Heaven darlin'! RIP Semper!

Yeah 2009 has sucked for me too...I have now lost two friends and my grandmother...My friend Carole died in March....my grandmother in June and now Richard. Thats three too many.

And I havent even included Larry. That was a hard one to handle as well.

Wow, just saw this and I'm in shock. It really puts life in prespective.

One question Becca, the obituary said he was survived by two great-grandchildren????

Posted on 8/12 8:34 PM | IP: Logged

He had two grandkids. Both his daughters had kids very young (they are 18 and 19). So he was a young grandfather.

RIP Semper Fi Nole. Thoughts and prayers for his family.

Posted on 8/13 12:19 AM | IP: Logged

Wow, what sad news. My condolences and prayers to his family and friends.

Posted on 8/13 10:17 AM | IP: Logged

Incredibly sad news...if I ever needed a laugh his posts in the smackboard were legendary and heaven is getting a true Marine.

Prayers for his family....just unreal.

Kind of a shocker when it's someone you knew or at least kind of knew. Very sad news indeed. It seems that 2009 has been a very bad year for this sort of thing.

Gator_56 and Bo from the SmackBoard attended the service today and had this to say:

It was a fitting service for man that so many held in such high regards. There were about 200 or so people(I hope he doesn't take this as attendance smack) there. The preacher read a few verses from the bible, and you woman sang very nice rendition of Amazing Grace, it gets me every time! One of the USMC's finest played taps while Two others performed the flag folding ceremony and presented to colors to his wife, after which the preacher dismissed the service with a word of prayer. Everyone made their way under the tent to offer there condolences to the family. I introduced myself to his wife and to Chris and told them I was from the message board and that there were a lot of others that wished the could have attended. I told them how much he meant to everyone here and that he will truly be missed. She thanked me for attending and told that he thought the world of all of us. She wanted me to pass on to you guys that she in a few days, when she felt like it she was going to make a post to tell everyone here how much we meant to him(That's when I lost it).

It was very evident from watching all in attendance that he was highly thought of, not only here but with everyone he came in contact with.

RIP My Friend!!!

Becca, thank you for posting this through Gator_56 & Bo. It seems obvious that they both passed on the strong love we all felt for him. Good job, and thank you, gentlemen.

I never post here, but I wanted to post this. Below in bold are some copied posts from myself (becca posted gator56's summary) from the smackboard about his funeral, in case anyone would like to read it but didn't read the other boards it was on.

I had known Semper for years, countless emails, dinner/drinks on multiple occassins. I knew him better than I knew anyone on warchant, I will miss him badly.

Just a month ago gator56, _canes_ and I had dinner/drinks with Semper at the Ale House, never thought we would have to bury him just a month later.

I'm going to copy the best posts about Semper from this thread and the others on gatorbait, tribal council, TCCL, smackboard that were in his honor, and have my mom(the creative one) make a little book to give to his family. His wife seemed to really get comfort from the friends he had here, so I hope this will be something she can look back on and realize how many of us got to know Semper and cared about him.

Id like to add that sempers wife was very sweet, she hugged 56 and I tightly and told us how much semper loved his Warchant/rivals buddies. I lost it a bit and cried like a baby for a moment in front of her, Im not good at holding in emotion when someone I cared about dies. His son definitely reminds me of Semper, his son also said how much fun Semper had BSing with folks on rivals. As 56 said they gave him a good send off, the playing of taps always gets the emotions going in a situation like this.

There was a good showing of FSU folks that worked with Semper. A lot of sad faces as expected. His family seemed to be holding up well considering the circumstances, but I only spoke with them briefly.
------------------------------------------------------------

There was one little laugh at the funeral, the preacher talked about Semper having a love for animals, and about a chicken he had saved, which got a few chuckles. I can imagine Semper, the big burly man doctoring a little chicken.

With it being outdoors and out in the country it had a real southern feel to me. Which was fitting. Anybody who spoke with Semper or met him knows he was VERY southern, not in a bad way of course.

Bo - I am glad you put your perspective of the funeral...I had only put 56's because I had not seen yours when I posted it yesterday. Thanks!

No worries, I didn't think you were slighting me3dGrinI just wanted to add more info for anyone who was interested in reading it. The military style funeral was perfect for Semper who took so much pride in serving our great country and being a marine. I'm going to give Semper Jr a call today or tomorrow to see how he's doing, I didn't want to call before since I knew he would be busy with calls from family/friends and obviously grieving.

This has been a rough week/summer, like many here this wasn't the first friend I had to bury this summer. Had to bury a Highschool friend a month or so ago, who died unexpected and who wasn't even 30. Ironically Semper talked with me about it and told me to call him if I ever needed someone to talk to, that was the kind of guy he was. He cared about his friends and their lives

Thank you Becca, Crowl, 56, Bo, and all others for keeping us informed. The stories of the funeral mean a lot. Honestly, before my Mom went into the hospital, I was hoping the funeral would be on Saturday so we could go up for it. As much as my mom was going through, she kept asking about Semp's funeral and his family.

For those in touch with the family -- thank you so much for passing on our love and prayers.

I was on vacation last week, but saw a brief something on Becca's FB update. Very sorry to hear this. I remember him posting very upbeat and funny things. He seemed to have a really good, somewhat carefree attitude, which made me think he was older. Prayers said for his family.

My favorite sign yet Jim. They both deserve it!

I really miss him...this week especially...because we'd talk a lot before a big game (trip to Tally)...planning to meet up while in town, etc.

The tailgate on Monday is going to be wierd.
