"Jacobbi McDaniel continued to get some first team reps"  meaning Goldman was likely getting some as well.  Also as mentioned McAllister is out for the spring.  Don't get your hopes up too high on Jacobbi starting, but, I'm very glad to hear he is doing well.

Please do me a favor: When that inevitable thread starts and all of these posters are "glad" we the media don't get more access to the team, please remind them of the difference between great access like the last two days and no access.

I always try to explain that our subscribers saying that the media should have less access means less information for them.

It's also very self serving. Which I have no problem with. I love the info myself, what I don't like is when Jimbo is made the bad guy for limiting access.

People here get mad at him for it because they can't get info and the media do because they can't get access. Jimbo does it because he believes its best for the team.

Just bothers me when he gets slammed as if he's wrong, when in reality it's because he's not doing what is wanted.

And just in case that sounded harsher than I meant it, the last two days of info has indeed been great. Well done.

The team is supported by donations. Hes obligated to be more open. It behooves him to do it.  When people here and read things they get excited, when they get excited they buy tickets, more tickets or better tickets, merchandise etc.

In a vacuum you are correct, but this is not a vacuum and Jimbo needs to understand that there is some PR involved with his decisions.

Please provide basis for your daily recitation that Coker has strongest arm.

According to family,  Coker has a broken bone in his foot.  He got it doing 4th qt drills.   He wears a boot when not practicing.   During practice he wears a steel insert to protect the foot.  It does not allow him to drive off his foot.  They want him to work from the pocket.  The head trainer said it would not be healed until after the spring.  They expect him to be full speed for August.  Nobody is making excuses, especially not Coker. Just the facts.

Weinke was 13 years ago with a different offensive coordinator. Also, offensive football has evolved in general where mobile QBs are more valuable. im not saying that Clint cant be the starter, but it seems that Jameis has everything a head coach wants and needs, and he does it very well

Wonder if we'll go into the season with two #1 qb's...

Trickett will start...Winston will be the change-up.

I would love to see these 1v1's as well. I also agree that this is the best coverage i have read on Warchant... Keep it up...

This insight the last couple of days has been second to none. Thanks for the hard work and keep it up. From your reports I really believe its going to be impossible to keep Mr. Winston off the field. It sounds like he has the IT factor. I really believe he is the most athletic QB we've had in a long time. What's your opionion on that( Winston being the most athletic QB we've had in a while?) DC? Thanks in advance and please keep these updates and info coming if you can. GO NOLES!
Is Winston the most athletic guy that's been around in a while? Probably so. But even with that, I'm not sure that guarantees him anything. More important than that, in the long term between now and fall it's going to take 1) good decisions in the system and 2) the ability to make all the throws consistently to win the job.

As has always been the rule, if you have a problem or issue with anything, hand it via email, and do not post it on the boards.

Booker is right about this, but that's OK I'll just answer this here:

What I was saying there is that on this particular Thursday, Coker's accuracy didn't seem to be affected. But long term, you have to wonder (as in the rest of the spring) if accuracy becomes an issue.

As far as judging his arm, that isn't a determination I've made in the past two days. We've seen him practice and warm up for more than two years and I'm telling you, he's got the biggest arm. To be clear, all four are capable, it's not like one guy has a weak arm, I just believe Coker has a cannon.

1. Is Lovelady a legit option at guard, down the road?
2. What are your thought on Carter?
3. Has Barron gained enough good weight to start at center this year if Stork slides out to RT?
1. I think at this point, spring ball 2013, Lovelady has to be a legit option at guard. Come fall? Ira Denson gets here and it's hard to envision him not being on the two deep given the depth issues so the shuffle could be interesting. Lovelady has experience at center and guard and he even played tackle in high school at Navarre. He'll stay inside most likely, but long term I see him as a versatile reserve that gives Trickett options if there are injuries to the starters.

2. Haven't seen him much, but I like him. Not as big as Jackson/Matias (and he's not challenging them for their spots anyway) but what I'd be interested to see is if he could help out at tackle. Not sure on that yet. But he's worked at both guard spots during spring so again, perhaps more versatility behind the starting five.

3. From the looks of things in spring, the coaching staff feels Barron can start at center this year. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't be giving Stork work at right tackle. In my opinion, though, the best-case for FSU is Hart to win the righ tackle job and to keep Stork at center. So yes Barron could do it, but I think keeping Stork there is the goal.

Correct. Goldman was in there, Derrick Mitchell even got some late in practice. Not saying he's going to be a starter -  McAllister and Goldman are ahead of him right now - but just the fact that he's shown enough to merit first-team snaps is impressive considering what he's been through.

Remember, this guy hasn't played in a game since October 2011. Would have been easy to not work his way back.

No, it's his program, I'm not bashing Fisher for that. Guys that open practice with any sort of regularity are rare these days, so to be critical of Jimbo would be unfair because it isn't like a lot of other people are doing it.

My point is that I think the perception of the media is funny sometimes, and from this side of the glass, it's sort of silly that a person who pays to know about his favorite football team would cheer the idea that his source of information be cut off as much as possible.

It's not feast for famine - all open practices OR ELSE is not the only solution - but a little more access could go a long way. And who knows, maybe Fisher is becoming more open to that idea.
3/29 10:17 AM | IP: Logged

Absolutely outstanding practice reports.  Exactly what we need to get us through the Spring.  I hope this open practice is an indication of things to come.  Not only pleased that the practices have been open but also pleased with the fact that you guys are taking good advantage of it.  Well done.

I seldom comment on the practice updates because I don't want to just chime in with all the other admirers and also because they can usually comment much better than can I.  However, these recent updates have been very, very enjoyable even though I don't usually follow every position promotion/demotion the way some posters do.  Good work DC'.

Your two points are spot-on DC'.  Decision making and making the throws are more important than athleticism every time.  Now if any of the QB candidates excel at those two things in addition to being athletic..........well that's cake.  Thing is, those two things are usually enhanced by experience more than is athleticism.  We'll see how it shakes out though; I'm sure the best QB, even if he has cement overshoes, will start at QB.  I'm not sweating the decision at all.
