4-star DE Keldric Faulk breaks down FSU official visit as decision looms

During a busy weekend for the Florida State football staff, eight official visitors made their way to Tallahassee for key trips, with many of them set to decide in the coming weeks.

One of the highest-rated recruits to take an official to FSU this weekend was four-star defensive end Keldric Faulk, a Rivals100 talent that used his final official on the Seminoles.

Faulk, who says he will announce his college decision on July 5, broke down everything from his visit, explained why he connects so well with the FSU staff and described what will be the deciding factor in his recruitment.

“The weekend was chill. A little bit more than my unofficial visits. I got to talk to the players a lot more,” Faulk said. “Sit down with the coaches and talk ball. Figure out what I want to do. Different majors and stuff like that.”

The Alabama product said football wasn't really the primary focus of this extended visit.

“What an FSU student-athlete’s life is like up here. See what their lifestyle is,” Faulk said. “Their lifestyle is pretty great. You come to work everyday and get the same thing every day. Coaches never lose energy, they’re the same people. Going to push you. You're going to work hard in everything you do.”

Faulk added that current players like defensive end Derrick McLendon reinforced his opinions of the staff and program, especially when it comes to FSU defensive ends coach John Papuchis.

“It was good just to see what the player told me wasn’t a lie,” Faulk said. “They actually told the truth. Coach J.P. loves his players, and his players love him.”

Faulk also had plenty of time to meet with FSU head coach Mike Norvell.

“It was pretty good. He was pretty excited, you know," the four-star prospect said. "Of course, I am going to commit on July 5. And he said he wants to coach me.”

Having already visited FSU a handful of times, Faulk was looking forward to seeing what his family thought of what the ’Noles had to offer.

“The visit wasn’t really for me. My mom has never come, so it was more of letting her come to see it,” Faulk said. "For me this weekend, it was coming up here to talk to the players more. More than I usually did. ...

“Really just connecting with everybody here. Ball is going to take care of itself. I am a big academic guy, so I am going to take care of my academics. But the people here are extravagant.”

Faulk also has longstanding relationships with several members of the Seminoles' support staff, including senior analyst Austin Tucker.

“It’s great seeing him again. Relationship is great. I never talk ball with him. It's always, how am I doing?” Faulk said. “That’s why I think I have a good relationship with him.”

So how is Faulk feeling about FSU coming off his crucial official visit?

“I feel pretty good about them,” he said. “They are, of course, they have been high on my radar for a very long time. And they still are.”

Already with a commitment date set, Faulk explained his plans for what he's doing between now and July 5.

“I am just going to sleep on it for a little bit,” Faulk said. “Come together with my family. Then make my decision.”

Faulk also described what is different and unique about FSU compared to the rest of his main options (Clemson, Auburn and Florida).

“Like I said before, some staffs ain’t the same when you come up different times,” Faulk said. “And I have been here six or seven times. Every time I have been here, they’re been the same people, every single time.”

What will be the deciding factor be?

“Wherever I feel the most comfortable. I am going to sit down and evaluate all the different aspects of each school,” Faulk said. “Wherever I feel the most comfortable, I am going to sit down and evaluate all the different aspects of each school. Wherever one I feel the best at, that’s what I am going to go with.”
