Add Dwayne Bacon to the list of former Florida State players who've now heard their names called in the NBA Draft.
Bacon, the star swingman who led FSU in scoring the last two seasons, will head to the Charlotte Hornets. Initially, he was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans with the 40th pick but his rights were then traded to Charlotte in the second round Thursday. Bacon, along with first-round pick Jonathan Isaac, become the fourth set of FSU teammates to be drafted in the same year and the first since 2010. Isaac was drafted sixth by the Orlando Magic.
The 6-foot-7 Bacon was a five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American who returned excitement to the FSU program. Bacon and Malik Beasley, now with the Denver Nuggets, were among the most high-profile players to sign with the Seminoles during Leonard Hamilton's tenure.
Bacon led FSU in scoring with 15.8 points per game and guided the Seminoles to the NIT, where it lost in the second round. Initially, Bacon declared for the draft after his freshman year but opted to return for his second season.
With Isaac in the fold, the Seminoles were an early Top 25 entry who would go onto to reach new heights in 2016-17. FSU went 18-0 at home and at one point was ranked No. 6 in The Associated Press rankings.
Bacon, who led FSU with 17.2 points, guided the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. He powered FSU with 25 points in a first-round victory over Florida Gulf Coast. Despite his scoring 20 points in the next game, FSU was eliminated from the tournament by Xavier in a Round of 32 game.
