California DE looking forward to FSU trip

You might think living only 40 minutes from the campus of Southern California would make Averell Spicer, the nation's top weakside defensive end, a fan of the Trojans. Instead there's a school on the east coast he cheers for on Saturdays.

"I have always been a Florida State fan." Spicer said. "I was

raised in Florida. I lived in Orlando, Cocoa Beach, and

Titusville."

It was only five years ago that the 6-foot-2, 260-pound DE changed coast lines, but his love for the 'Noles has remained intact. In fact, his memories of the Seminoles date back to when he was just a young pup.

"I remember Bobby Bowden being a big deal (when I lived in Florida)," said Spicer, "I also know Dominic Robinson because he came from California."

Spicer will get to see his childhood favorite in person when he makes an official visit to Tallahassee on November 19th.

In addition to FSU and USC, he is looking at Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oregon State.

So far Spicer's team, Rancho Cucamonga, is 3-2. In those five games Spicer has four sacks and 46

tackles on defense, while splitting time at running back and tight end.

FSU has been and will continue to be hot on the trail of the west coast's top defensive end. Coach Lilly made a personal visit to check out Spicer during the spring evaluation period.

In the classroom, Spicer has a 3.0 GPA and scored a 900 on his SAT.
