Former FSU offensive lineman Cameron Erving has been picked by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 19 overall pick.
He'll be the third former Florida State player on the roster for the Browns, along with receiver Rodney Smith and defensive lineman Jacobbi McDaniel.
In the days leading up to the draft, Erving was considered the FSU player most likely to be drafted in the first round other than quarterback Jameis Winston.
Erving is valued by NFL teams for his versatility and athleticism. Most scouts consider center to be his best position, but he could also help a team at tackle or center. Erving was announced as a guard by the Browns.
"He played left tackle and moved into center and that really, to me, is where his greatest value is," ESPN analyst Todd McShay said before the draft. "I think he's one of the 25, 30 best players in this draft at the center position."
Erving started game at left tackle in 2012, 2013 and the first nine games of the 2014 season before switching to center and starting the final five games of the season there. He earned the Jacobs Trophy, given to the ACC's top blocker, in both 2013 and 2014.
He was a consensus first team All-ACC choice in 2013 season and could have entered the draft following his junior year, but chose to return for his senior year in part to elevate his stock and possibly go in the first round. In his senior year, he was a first team All-ACC selection at left tackle by the media and the coaches, but earned second-team All-ACC honors at center from the media and third team from the coaches.
Erving is the first offensive lineman from FSU to be drafted this year. The Seminoles could have up to three more if Josue Matias, Tre Jackson and Bobby Hart are all selected.
