Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett intends to transfer he announced via a release through the school on Wednesday afternoon.
Trickett, who is the son of assistant head coach and offensive line coach Rick Trickett, appeared in 17 games in two seasons at FSU. He threw for 947 yards, seven touchdowns and three picks in his career.
The redshirt junior will graduate in May with bachelors degree in Social Science from FSU, making him eligible to play right away. A source close to Trickett told Warchant.com that he is expected to decide between South Florida and West Virgina. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
"After a long meeting with Clint, he expressed he'd like to explore another playing opportunity, and I've signed off on his wish," head coach Jimbo Fisher said in the release.
"Clint has not only been a great player for our program, but a great young man and ambassador for Florida State who will graduate in a few weeks. He's been a part of this program for a long time and we wish nothing but the best for him in his future endeavors."
The Tallahassee North Florida Christian star battled former five-star redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston for the starting job this spring.
During Saturday's spring game Winston completed 12 of 15 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns, all against the first-team defense. Trickett, failed to score on the starting defense, but did throw a touchdown against the second-team defense. Since Saturday's performance, at least in the eyes of the FSU fanbase, the momentum has been in Winston's favor to become FSU's starter in 2013.
Trickett lined up for both sides in the game and completed 22 of 32 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Trickett saw action in eight games in 2012 completing 22-of-34 passes (64.7 percent) for 272 yards. Trickett started two (Clemson, Wake Forest) of the nine games he played in during the 2011 season as a redshirt freshman.
Against Clemson in 2011, his first-career start, Trickett threw for a career-high 336 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
"I had a good time here at Florida State and want to thank everyone for being so good to me," Trickett said. "I'll always be part of the FSU alumni."
The FSU starting job will be decided this fall between Winston and redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker.
