Despite never visiting campus, Severn (Md.) Archbishop Spalding defensive back Sean Johnson locked in an official visit to Florida State soon after being offered by the Seminoles back in January.
Johnson had also planned a trip this spring to see the Seminoles in action for the first time. That visit came to fruition as Johnson spent the majority of Tuesday and a portion of Wednesday on Florida State's campus for a multi-day first look at the Seminoles.
"It was great. I really liked the practice and getting to meet all the new coaches. It had some really high-end intensity and I like how the DBs were together competing out there," Johnson said.
"They are building something special. Even though after what happened last year, they definitely have something special going on. I really like how the team and the coaches interact with each other. Everybody was competing. It seemed like a good brotherhood," he later added.
For his first time in Tallahassee, Johnson will be getting to see a good portion of what Florida State has to offer. A multi-day visit with the coaching staff allowed him to see not only the new facilities that will be coming in the fall but also how the defensive backs interact with one another.
"I really like how the older guys were helping out the freshmen and helping with the playbook, with technique and stuff like that. I think they're really good leaders. I was watching them (the coaches) when they were with their players. I think they really care about them as more than just a football player but as a man too," Johnson said.
Johnson is making a round of visits to some of the top programs on his list this spring. He's already taken in trips to Michigan State and Wisconsin. The former is trending to be added to Johnson's official visit schedule, which currently sits as Penn State on May 16, Wisconsin on May 30, NC State on June 6, Florida State on June 13 and Maryland on June 20.
After his visit on Tuesday, Johnson is looking forward to getting back to Tallahassee.
"I like them a lot, to be honest. I'm excited to be back for my official. I think they are building something really good," he said.
What is it about Florida State that has caught his attention so much?
"I would say the environment. Who wouldn't want to go to Florida State? It's DBU also. Jalen Ramsey, Deion Sanders, Derwin James. It doesn't get better than FSU."
Johnson will be back on campus on June 13.
