The July edition of the Jimbo Fisher Camp kicked off on Tuesday with some strong performances from underclassmen, including a Florida State commitment who worked out at a new position.

In this Day 1 Insider Report, we break down some of the top performances, including that of Clearwater Central Catholic DB Amari Burney, who earned an offer from the Seminoles. A 2019 quarterback from Texas also shined and earned an offer of his own.

One of the big things Florida State's coaches are looking for during the Jimbo Fisher camp is how players perform in tough situations -- whether they can continue making plays when they are worn down and fatigued.

That was certainly the test on Tuesday for Clearwater Central Catholic DB/WR Amari Burney, who followed a two-hour workout at the camp by putting up some impressive testing numbers. First, Burney ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, then followed up with a 9-4 broad jump and capped off the testing with a 31-inch vertical jump.

"I was tired, but you just fight through it," Burney said immediately after the camp. "I ran a 4.35 at Alabama -- the other camp I attended -- so I was confident I would run fast."

The relationship between FSU and the Burney runs deep. He said Florida State assistant coach Lawrence Dawsey showed interest in him last year when he wasn't being heavily recruited by others, and he added that he'll never forget that.

"I camped at FSU, and I remember Coach Dawsey called me in his office and said how talented I was and that was when I had no offers," Burney said. "He's been there from the start. So I always trust him a lot [and] I've always had a lot of interest in FSU."

As far as his performance on Tuesday, Burney called it, "Awesome." And the Seminoles' coaches must have agreed, as he received an offer following the afternoon session.
