Florida State star sophomore safety Derwin James will not return for the rest of the regular season, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said Wednesday.

James has been out since sustaining a torn meniscus against Charleston Southern in Week 2.

"You won't see him back during the regular season," Fisher said on his weekly call-in show. "Possibly for a bowl game or something like that. Again, I keep saying, it's a matter of time on that injury."

James' injury was the first major ailment to sideline a Florida State defensive or offensive starter this season, but it was far from the last. FSU is without senior defensive back Nate Andrews (torn pectoral muscle), freshman offensive lineman Landon Dickerson (torn ACL) and receiver Bobo Wilson (foot surgery) for the remainder of the regular season.

Fisher has previously said he does not expect to redshirt James, who will be a junior next season.

James has been with the team during games and practices since the injury. He was seen running and jumping around prior to the team's 24-20 win over North Carolina State on Saturday.

FSU (6-3, 3-3 ACC) hosts Boston College at 7 p.m. Friday at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles' final two regular-season games will come Nov. 19 at Syracuse and Nov. 26 when they host in-state rival Florida.

"They give you so much time to heal," Fisher said of James' recovery. "Now, he does heal faster than everybody else. But there's no reason to chance ... it's not worth it right now."
