Florida State has signed 15 five-star recruits dating back to the 2014 recruiting class. Today, we check in on those five-stars to examine whether they have been a boom or a bust for the Seminoles.
Class of 2019 / Class Ranking: No. 18
This a pretty low-ranked recruiting class by Florida State standards. However, considering that FSU finished the 2018 season with a losing record, a top-20 class isn't too shabby.
This season: Freshman
Ranking: No. 4 CB (No. 28 overall)
Boom or Bust? TBA
Dent appears to have all the tools to become an elite college cornerback. With FSU returning several cornerbacks with starting experience, he will be in a better position to make a major impact in year two.
Class of 2018 / Class Ranking: No. 10
The fact that Florida State finished with a top-10 class in 2018 was remarkable. Former head coach Jimbo Fisher effectively stopped recruiting by mid-season, and as a result, the Seminoles' recruiting ranking fell into the 70s nationally. Willie Taggart was able to salvage this class despite being hired just two weeks before the start of the early signing period.
This season: Sophomore
Ranking: No. 3 safety (No. 29 overall)
Boom or Bust? Boom
Started 12 games as a true freshman, recording 58 tackles (4.5 TFLs). He would go on to earn ESPN Freshman All-America honors and was voted the team's Freshman of the Year. Absent an injury, Woodbey could easily make All-ACC or even All-America lists this fall.
Class of 2017 / Class Ranking No. 5
This could end up being a pretty good group of five-star signees, depending how Josh Kaindoh and Khalan Laborn finish out their FSU careers. Interestingly, the best recruit from the 2017 class could end up being one of its lowest rated -- three-star wide receiver Tamorrion Terry.
This season: Junior
Ranking: No. 1 DT (No. 2 overall)
Boom or Bust? Boom
Wilson started just five games last season but appeared in 12. He was very productive, finishing his sophomore campaign with 42 tackles (4.5 TFLs) and 3.5 sacks. Earned honorable mention All-ACC honors following the 2018 season. Expected to emerge as one of the nation's most dominating interior defensive linemen in 2019.
