The recruiting battle between Florida State and Miami is finally over. Miami Central's four-star wide receiver Da'Vante Phillips ended his recruitment on New Years Eve.
During an announcement on ESPNU's coverage of the Under Armour All-American game practices in Orlando, Fla., the Rivals250 member said he is headed to FSU.
"I will be spending the next four years at Florida State University," replied Phillips.
He picked the Noles over Auburn, Louisville and Miami. He is commitment No. 21 and joins three other wide receiver commitments Auden Tate, Nyqwan Murray and George Campbell.
His decision is hardly a surprise. He visited FSU multiple times, including his official visit during the Florida game over Thanksgiving weekend. As far back as June, during the Jimbo Fisher camp, it looked like FSU was high on his list.
"It feels like home every time I'm here. I feel comfortable with all the players here, not just Dalvin (Cook)," he said in a June interview. "It's a very relaxing place to be even though the players work really hard if you know what I mean."
With his announcement, the Miami Central pipeline continues for FSU. Earlier this year, the 'Noles signed commitments from defensive tackle Frederick Jones and Cook. The Noles also have another 2015 commitment from four-star defensive back Calvin Brewton.
Phillips is impressed with what he sees out of FSU and explained why he thinks so highly of the offense.
"It's a fun offense to watch," Phillips told Warchant.com earlier this month. "FSU really spreads the ball around. I like how balanced it is and how they get all the receivers involved. FSU is playing to the level of the teams they play, but I just think they need to come out strong and fast. I fit in very well. I'm like an Andre Johnson type of receiver."
Phillips plans to enroll at FSU in January. He is rated the the No. 11 wide receiver, No. 102 nationally, and No. 19 in the state.
