A closer look at Florida State's 2018 wide receiver class
On Tuesday, the Florida State roster had just five scholarship receivers on it. By mid-afternoon on Wednesday, that number had doubled.
First-year head coach Willie Taggart made a concerted effort to replenish the FSU receiver depth chart heading into National Signing Day, and that's precisely what he did.
He added five players -- three from Florida, one from Georgia and one from Washington -- to the receiver group in an effort to get his offense up and running as quickly as possible.
He wants speed. He wants size. He wants playmakers. And he wants it all to be lethally simple. Which means, unlike in recent years, a few (if not all) of these incoming receivers could get on the field early and often in 2018.
"We'd like to have at least 11 on scholarship," Taggart said Wednesday afternoon. "So it was important that we get some guys to fill our needs that we needed. In order to do some of the things that we wanted to do, it was important to get some guys in the receiver position. I'm really happy with the ones we landed. That's pretty cool."
The highest-ranked prospect of the bunch is Armwood's Warren Thompson, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound four-star who was ranked the No. 14 receiver in the country and the No. 83 player overall.
Tre'Shaun Harrison, of Seattle, is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound four-star prospect who was ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Washington.
Daytona-Mainland's D'Marcus Adams (6-foot, 170 pounds) is also considered a four-star prospect.
Jordan Young, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound former Tennessee commit, is listed as a three-star by Rivals. As is 5-foot-9 Pensacola speedster Keyshawn Helton.
On Wednesday night, during Florida State's National Signing Day party, an assistant coach talked about each of the five receivers.
