This spring, FSU has extended only a handful of quarterback offers. However, one name seemed to always stand above the pack. Today that top target, Pittsburgh Central Catholic quarterback J.J. Cosentino made it official on Monday afternoon and announced his college choice.
"I committed to Florida State," Cosentino told Warchant.com.
Shortly after making the big call to head coach Jimbo Fisher, Cosentino's head coach Terry Totten confirmed the commitment to Florida State and talked about his star quarterback.
"Yes J.J. committed to FSU today. J.J. is an outstanding kid that works very hard and he's the type of quarterback that can make all the throws on the football field," said Totten. "HE has great arm strength and we are very excited about this commitment to Florida State. He's a great leader."
A big reason for the comfort level at Florida State was the job that former Central Catholic alum and current FSU assistant coach Sal Sunseri laid down early into the recruitment. However, the biggest impression was Jimbo Fisher. Cosentino told Warchant.com earlier this year that Fisher made it clear they wanted the 6-foot-5 gun slinger when he was ready to make his decision.
"That eased my mind and I felt at home there at FSU," said Cosentino.
Cosentino is the seventh commitment in FSU's 2014 class and is the first quarterback to pledge.
