Get to know.... Brandon Reichert
Hankin
1) You left Mercer for Florida State during
the summer of 2005. What was your biggest reason for wanting to transfer?
Well, my main reason for going to Mercer was to
become a better infielder under the coaching of Link Jarrett (who I respect and
think the world of). That summer he left to go to East Carolina. Between that
and some family issues, I decided it was the best move for me to come back home.
2) How surprised were you to not get your release (the only player in D1 that
year to not receive it when asked)? Do you understand their reasoning?
I was very surprised that I didn't get the
release because I just thought it was standard procedure. Although I understood
coach Gibson's reasoning, I still thought he would understand that I just needed
to come home.
3) How hard was it to sit out all season waiting to be able to play?
Well, It was definitely something I wasn't used
to, but I had a lot of support from the coaches and all of my teammates, and
they made it pretty easy. Even though I didn't play, I still feel like I had a
big role in last years season.
4) A lot has been said by your teammates and coaches about your enthusiasm
and how you were good for team chemistry. How did you develop into that kind of
player?
It makes me feel real good to know that. I just
try to get along with everyone early and hope that it helps the team positively.
I try to keep everyone loose on the diamond and encourage them to have a little
fun.
5) You're also one of the loudest players when you're on the diamond. How did
you develop into such a talkative player?
I don't know, I guess I learned to be loud at
an early age. It helps everyone stay up in long innings and late in the game -
plus a lot of the time it drives the other team crazy.
6) During Fall Ball, you played third base and seemed to struggle a little.
Now it seems that you might be playing first base in the spring. What position
do you feel more natural at, and do you a have a preference as to where you
play?
I played first base for my whole life until I
got to Mercer where I played third. I feel 100% more comfortable at first, but
I'm going to work my butt off to be the best I can at third if that's where they
stick me. As long as I contribute and help get us to Omaha, I'm happy.
7) What are some of the biggest differences between playing at Mercer than
playing at Florida State?
There is a history at FSU that is unmatched
anywhere else. The game is played perfectly here and winning is expected.
8) You're expected to contribute a lot to the Seminole offense in 20007. How
much does that kind of pressure affect you?
I love the pressure of big time baseball. I've
lived in Tallahassee my entire life and I've been waiting to stand in the
batters box at Dick Howser stadium since my Dad took me to my first game.
9) Will we see any dugout and batter's music dances this year like we saw for
part of 2006?
I'm not sure. It's hard for me to keep still
(as my parents would tell you), especially when my adrenaline is pumping during
the game. Keep your eyes open, If there's music I'll be moving.
10) Other than baseball, what is your favorite sport to play? How about to
watch?
My next favorite sport to play is golf. I'm
terrible at it, but it really relaxes me to be out on the course. As for TV, I'd
have to say college football is my favorite to watch.
