In-depth Q&A with FSU's newest commit, Rivals250 OL/DL Antavious Woody

The Florida State Seminoles are as hot on the recruiting trail right now as the summer weather in Tallahassee.

After a huge weekend with four commitments, the Seminoles picked up a fifth on Monday as the No. 104 prospect in the country, four-star OL/DL Antavious Woody, announced he also is planning to sign with FSU.

Shortly after announcing his decision, Woody spoke with Warchant.com about why he jumped on board, his feelings about the direction of the Seminoles' program, why he is so fond of OL coach Alex Atkins and more.

Q: All right, Tay. Why was it Florida State for you?

A: Why FSU? It's really a, "Why not Florida State?" The guys there at Florida State have always been there from the start with me. They love my family, and they are the one school that has always gotten to know me from the start. They treat me so well, and they help me with everything. They talk to me every day. They make sure I'm always doing what I need to do as a person and player.

Q: Talk to me about FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins. He's been such a strong part of your recruitment. So what's that relationship like there?

A: Me and Coach Atkins are like some shoes that can't be split apart. That's my guy right there. Our connection is so strong because of his personality and his character and the characteristics he stands for. Coach has a very outgoing personality. He will always make you smile no matter what and makes sure you aren't down about nothing. But he's also going to push you to and past your limits.

Q: At the same, you've said that he is really tough on you about ways you can get better and wants to make sure you're not satisfied just being a really good player.

A: He always tells me how I need it to be told to me. If I'm doing something lazy, he's going to be on it because he cares so much about you. He's so truthful about everything he says.

Q: Now tell me about that call to Florida State today when you talked with both Coach Atkins and Coach Norvell. What was the emotion like over the phone when you jumped on board?

A: That was a real exciting moment. It was such a great moment with Coach Atkins and Coach Norvell. Man, they loved it so much. Coach Norvell was screaming so loud and yelling at the top of his lungs when I told him. They were really excited for sure.

Q: We talked to you a lot on Sunday about your official visit this weekend and how well it went for you. What did your family think about it?

A: Oh, my dad loved it all -- with everything that went on with the visit. He loves how the guys take care of me at FSU and how they have been there from day one. He also loves how this staff stays on me about things that I need to do. He likes how they criticize me for things that they need to criticize me for. He loved it all.
