If not for an impromptu conversation outside of a Moore Athletics Center elevator a few weeks ago, Ryan Green could have been lined up at defensive back this past Saturday in Florida State’s spring game.

Instead, he was the leading rusher and one of the top offensive performers on a day that featured many individual standouts.

Green, a fourth-year junior who started his FSU career at tailback before moving to defensive back last spring, said he was planning to finish his career in the Seminoles’ secondary until he bumped into head coach Jimbo Fisher in mid-March.

The Seminoles had just started spring drills, and Fisher casually asked Green what he believes he does best on the football field.

“I run the ball best,” Green told him.

OK, Fisher replied. Then move back to running back.

Green did it that afternoon.

“Once he told me to go back to running back, that running back instinct just kicked right back in,” the former St. Petersburg Catholic star said. “I just jumped right into the fire.”

Those instincts were evident in the spring game.
