Late goals lift FSU soccer to road win over TCU

Two goals in the span of two minutes and 20 seconds led the No. 6 Florida State women's soccer team (2-0-0) to a 2-0 victory over No. 9 TCU (1-1-0) in a top 10 matchup Sunday night at Garvey Rosenthal Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Seminoles now hold an unbeaten streak of 17-straight non-conference games dating back to Sept. 1, 2019. The Seminoles also improved to 12-3-5 against top 10 opponents since the 2020 season.

A very physical first half did not allow either team to get into a rhythm as each team only attempted four shots each with only one of those being on target for each team. A total of 16 fouls were called in the first half as well as two yellow cards. The Seminoles got a couple of good looks from Beata Olsson and Amelia Van Zanten but nothing found the back of the net. The Seminoles controlled possession throughout the half and used a strong defensive effort to keep the Horned Frogs off-balanced leading to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first.

FSU turned up the aggression in the second half, getting a quick shot from Jordynn Dudley in the 53rd minute that went just wide. In the 70th minute, Taylor Huff dribbled through the defense and took a shot from just beyond 25 yards and put it in the back of the net to break the tie.

This was Huff's second goal in as many games and is the fourth time in her career that Huff has recorded a goal in back-to-back games. In just under two and a half minutes later, Lily Farkas sent a ball to Jody Brown, who streaked down the far sideline and delivered a perfect ball into the box for Onyi Echegini, who easily converted for her first goal of the season to extend the Noles' lead to 2-0.

FSU's defense continued to suffocate the Horned Frogs as they allowed just two shots in the final 25 minutes to close out their Texas road trip with another win.

In the end, TCU held a slight shot advantage (9-8) but the Seminoles recorded three shots on goal compared to the Horned Frogs' one.

Sunday's victory marked coach Brian Pensky's eighth-ranked win in just 25 games as the Seminoles' head coach.
