LB Edwin Spillman has 'awesome' official visit with FSU

Florida State already has one linebacker, Jayden Parrish, committed to its 2024 recruiting class and is looking to add at least one more high school prospect to that position group. And it certainly sounds as if the Seminoles have only enhanced their chances of landing outside linebacker prospect Edwin Spillman from Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy at the end of his official visit to FSU over the weekend.

"It was awesome, I had an awesome visit," Spillman said

"Really getting to see the community aspect of it all," said Spillman when asked what he learned about the FSU football program on his visit. "Also getting to hang out with the coaches and seeing what makes Florida State, Florida State."

Spillman was also asked why FSU was among the final five schools he was considering.

"Definitely my relationships with the coaches and also coming here and seeing the reasons why they want me so badly, why they're recruiting me, I haven't really seen or gotten a firm reason why schools want me and stuff like that and getting to see that they had a whole presentation out was really good to see," answered Spillman, who will take official visits to Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia later this month.

He also got to spend some one-on-one time with head coach Mike Norvell.

"It was awesome getting to hang out with coach," said Spillman. "He is a kind, genuine guy, great coach, great man and that's just really what I enjoyed, knowing the type of man he is. It was really cool, we pretty much talked about everything. We talked about my story and the reasons why he wants to coach me, and he wants to be a part of my journey. That really stood out to me."

Spillman also says the chance to play early at FSU is another reason the Seminoles are among his top schools.

"That is definitely a really big part because I know I come and play early and get a big head start on my journey," said Spillman. "I'm just really excited about that opportunity."

The rising senior has also formed a tight bond with FSU linebackers coach Randy Shannon.

"Coach is a great man, he's filled with great wisdom," said Spillman of Shannon. "He's coached a lot of the greats, so coach is awesome, getting to see his background. My parents loved him. Just a genuine and kind guy."

"FSU is definitely one of my top schools," said Spillman when asked about where FSU stood after the conclusion of his visit. "Like I said, (I've) built great relationship with coaches and it was just even better getting to come here and experience it all with them and letting my dad and my brother get to see it too."

Spillman also indicated that he plans to announce his commitment in July although he hasn't set a specific date yet.
