Leonard Hamilton and Florida State had a big recruiting year with a top 10 class in 2015. That elite group included five-star Dwayne Bacon, four-stars Terance Mann and Malik Beasley, as well as top junior college standouts Benji Bell and Jean Marc-Koumadje.
That momentum continued when the 'Noles landed their first commitment for the 2016 class when Rivals150 four-star shooting guard Trent Forrest of Chipley (Fla.) announced via twitter that he's heading to Florida State.
After praying and talking with my family. I have decided to end my recruitment and commit to FSU. I want to thank all the coaches that have- Trent Forrest (@TForrest_11) May 5, 2015
Forrest picked the Noles over offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Murray State, Wichita State and Tennessee.
"They've been recruiting me since the eighth grade," Forrest told Warchant.com. "I got a good relationship with the coaches and they did a good job recruiting me. They just believed in what I could do."
As a sophomore, Forrest averaged 23 points per game and was the leading scorer for Chipley high school. He is known for having a strong knowledge of the game and is able to score in a variety of ways, both from the outside and off the dribble. He's also one of the better rounding shooting guards around the Southeast.
Forrest is excited about FSU's incoming 2015 class and the possibility of playing with them when he arrives in Tallahassee.
"It will be great. We'll be deep at the guard position and there will be a lot of scoring. It will be tough for the ACC to match up with because most of them don't really have a lot of guards," he said.
Forrest, a 6-foot-4, 190 pound shooting guard, can play the wing or either guard position in college. He's also rated the No. 82nd best prospect in the country according to Rivals.com.
