Quarterback Recruiting Breakdown: Who's coming, going for FSU?
With the 2016 college football season winding down, it's time to begin looking closer at the state of Florida State's 2017 recruiting class. The Seminoles currently have 14 commitments in the fold, and with a small senior class graduating, they are expecting to sign just over 20.
Over the next few weeks, we will take a position-by-position look at the Seminoles' recruiting efforts through four key areas: Who they're losing; who's coming back; who they've landed; and who they're targeting.
We begin with the quarterbacks:
Who they're losing
After five years in the program, redshirt senior Sean Maguire is finishing up his Florida State career this season. Despite being primarily a backup, Maguire filled in for the Seminoles in several key situations during the past three seasons. He started in place of Jameis Winston when Winston was suspended for the 2014 Clemson game; he took over when Everett Golson struggled in the second half of 2015; and he has pitched in when Deondre Francois has been banged up at times in 2016.
Losing Maguire should not have a major effect on FSU's chances for success in 2017, but he has been a nice back-up plan for head coach Jimbo Fisher throughout his career. It's yet to be determined who will be Francois' top backup in 2017.
