Florida State has been planning to sign at least one running back for the 2016 recruiting class. But so far, running back is the one position where FSU hasn't secured a verbal commitment.
That changed on Monday evening.
One of the main targets for the 'Noles has been Coral Gables all-everything running back Amir Rasul. The longtime Seminole fan has been committed to the rival Miami Hurricanes since January. That all changed when FSU got some good news from the four-star back.
With Rasul now in the fold, Florida State is likely done recruiting this position for the 2016 class. Rasul is an elusive back that has been high on FSU's radar for a while. The feeling is mutual as Rasul says he is excited to finally be a part of the Seminole family.
"Yes sir, I have committed to Florida State. FSU is the best place for me. I've always loved them," he told Warchant.com "My mother went there and now I'm going there. It's a blessing."
Relationships always play a major role in the decision process, and Rasul said he built a strong bond with FSU running backs coach Jay Graham.
"We talked a lot about how he can use me like they did Dalvin Cook, but our relationship is also personal. He's a great guy."
The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder is ranked as the nation's No. 12 overall running back. He becomes FSU's 19th commitment for the 2016 class and the fourth from South Florida.
