One month after saying they were thinking about making "modifications" to the controversial new McDonald's billboard attached to Doak Campbell Stadium, Florida State officials are preparing to scrap the advertisement altogether.
Two university sources confirmed to Warchant on Monday that the sign, which is on the back side of the stadium's new south end zone scoreboard, will be removed at some point in August. It is not exactly clear how that space will be used going forward, but one source said it would not be for advertising.
FSU's decision comes more than a month after the signs were erected, eliciting widespread criticism on social media and Warchant's message boards. The signs overlook Langford Green and the Seminoles' iconic Unconquered statue.
Florida State's first home game is scheduled for Sept. 9 against Louisiana-Monroe. The Seminoles open the 2017 campaign one week earlier against Alabama in Atlanta.
Preseason practice begins Tuesday, Aug. 1.
