While rumors and reports were swirling around Jimbo Fisher for weeks, linking him to the vacant LSU head coaching job and even the then-filled Texas head coaching job, the climate inside the Florida State football program apparently never felt so much as a breeze.

Fisher, who led Florida State to a 31-13 victory over rival Florida on Saturday night to cap off a 9-3 regular season, said he was never asked by one Seminoles player if he was thinking about leaving.

And FSU President John Thrasher told Warchant that he was never worried, either.

“Jimbo and I had an understanding for a long time,” Thrasher told Warchant after Saturday’s victory.

In the weeks since Les Miles was fired at LSU, various media outlets have reported that Fisher would be the Tigers’ top candidate. As recently as this week, reports claimed that Fisher turned down an offer of $6.8 million per year to coach the Tigers; Fisher currently makes about $5.2 million in an escalating contract at FSU.

While Thrasher insisted he had no concern about Fisher leaving, he did acknowledge that the Seminoles will be revising the coach's current contract, which runs through the 2022 season.

“We’re gonna tweak his contract a little bit,” Thrasher said. “Maybe strengthen it in some places. But he’s happy. We’re happy.”

Fisher made it clear in his postgame press conference that Tallahassee is where he wants to be.

“I love Florida State. I always wanted to be at Florida State. I told ‘em a long time ago I was going to be at Florida State. I love being here. I love what we’re building, and I think we can build things for a long time. …

"We’ve got great young players. And I love the hell out of it.”
