Warchant Top 40: Our countdown continues with players 11-20

It’s time to continue our look at the 2020 Florida State football season with Warchant’s annual list of the top 40 players on the Seminoles' roster -- the players we expect to make the biggest impact for FSU in 2020. (Note: This is not necessarily the 40 most talented players, but the players we believe will have the opportunity and capability to make the biggest impact this season.)

This list features players ranked No. 11 to 20 in importance. Here are the previous installments:

* Players No. 21 through 30

* Players No. 31 through 40

The list was compiled through voting by Warchant’s Gene Williams, Ira Schoffel, Corey Clark and Aslan Hajivandi, along with ESPN-Tallahassee’s Jeff Cameron. The Top 40 will be revealed in segments.

Please be sure to watch the video below for a full conversation between the panelists on these 10 Seminoles and then read the capsules for each player, including expectations for this season.

No. 20 -- Redshirt senior linebacker Emmett Rice

After never really being able to gain a foothold in the Seminoles' linebacking corps, either due to inexperience or injury, the Miami native finally seemed to come into his own in the final half of the 2019 season.

Rice made just 31 tackles total in his first three years with the Seminoles. But in 2019, he played in 13 games, made nine starts and finished with 72 tackles, including 4.5 for loss. At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, he's certainly not the biggest linebacker on the roster, but he's one of the most experienced. He had a career-high 14 tackles in a narrow loss at Wake Forest, and he combined for 15 stops in the final two games of the season.

Rice proved he could be a capable starter a year ago for the Seminoles. Now, he has a chance to build on his productive junior campaign.

No. 19 -- Sophomore cornerback Akeem Dent

It was a roller-coaster freshman season for the former five-star recruit.

On the one hand, Dent gave up a handful of big catches and touchdowns in 2019 and also dropped more than a few interceptions. On the other hand, Dent was in position to make a ton of plays, showing he has the instincts to make a major impact for the Florida State defense.

Dent recorded 35 tackles on the season for the Seminoles, and he had nine pass breakups, which was the most for any freshman in the conference. If he can turn those breakups into interceptions as a sophomore, Dent could be one of the breakout stars in the ACC in 2020. Although he is coming back from a foot injury that limited him during winter conditioning and the abbreviated spring drills, Dent is expected to compete for the starting cornerback job opposite Asante Samuel Jr.
