McPherson Arrested on two counts

It's been a busy week for former Adrian McPherson. The former Seminole quarterback was dismissed from the football team on Monday. Then on Tuesday he took part in a press conference in St. Petersburg with his attorney where he denied receiving any funds from a stolen check from a Tallahassee business and questioned the coaches decision to kick him off the team so quickly. On Wednesday he was back in Tallahassee and after meeting with officials at the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) with his attorney, was booked and arrested.

Prior to his arrival in Tallahassee, TPD issued two arrest warrants for grand theft (felony) and theft (misdemeanor). Below is the press release for the two warrants.
Arrest Warrants For Adrian McPherson Obtained By The
Tallahassee Police Department
One felony arrest warrant and one misdemeanor arrest warrant have been obtained for Adrian McPherson, former quarterback for Florida State University, by the Tallahassee Police Department in connection with a stolen, forged and passed check. The facts of the case are these:
On November 18, 2002, Mr. Dale Acosta, the owner of R&R Truck Accessories called the Tallahassee Police Department to report a stolen check. The owner had called his bank and learned it had been cashed at 4:00pm the same day, and this is when he called TPD. The check had been cashed at the Capital City Bank located at 2020 W. Pensacola, and was made out to a Melvin Capers.
On November 22, 2002, TPD investigator James Besse went to Capital City Bank and interviewed the teller who cashed the check. She informed him that Capers had cashed the check while going through the drive-thru lane. The check was made out for $3,500 and the defendant was given $3,500 in US currency.
Inv. Besse also obtained a sworn statement from Mr. Acosta saying that he had not written the check and that he did not know anyone by the name of Melvin Capers. In the statement he also said that on the day in question, Adrian McPherson (the former FSU quarterback) was at his business looking for a new set of tire rims. Minutes later, McPherson accompanied Acosta into the office. Acosta said that McPherson came to the business alone. While talking with McPherson in his office, Acosta left the office to go out to the sale floor for about 10 minutes, leaving McPherson alone. Shortly thereafter, McPherson left the business.
On November 25th, Capers came to TPD for an interview. After being advised of his rights, Capers stated the following:
On November 18th he received a call from Adrian McPherson. McPherson told him that he received a check from a Florida State University booster and he needed him to cash the check - so his name wouldn’t be involved. Capers then went to McPherson - got the check, and went to the bank to cash it.
According to Capers, the check was already made out to him (Capers) when he got it from McPherson. He then went to his house with the money after cashing the check at the Capital City Bank.
McPherson then came by his (Capers) residence and retrieved the money. He gave Capers $30.00 to “get something to eat.” Later that day, Capers said he received a call from McPherson stating that the “cops were in on it” and that he was going to make up a story so that he would not get in trouble with the team.
Capers was arrested on the same day he gave his statement to TPD (November 25th) and was booked into the county jail charged with Uttering (passing a forged instrument) and Grand Theft – both felonies.
The Tallahassee Police Department has waited patiently to interview McPherson. Today (November 27th) McPherson’s attorney scheduled two different appointments with TPD in which he was to present his client for questioning. At 2:00pm this afternoon (the time of the last scheduled appointment), Investigator Besse called the attorney’s law office and was told that McPherson was not in Tallahassee – but supposedly he was driving here, with his attorney, from some undisclosed location. It was at this time that TPD believed that McPherson and his attorney were not going to present themselves at TPD as they originally agreed to do.
Arrest warrants for Theft (stealing the blank check), and Grand Theft have obtained for Adrian McPherson – and these warrants are currently active. The Theft is a misdemeanor and the Grand Theft charge is a felony.
