Expressing disappointment about his physical ailments but appreciation for the support of his family, friends, teammates and coaches, Florida State defensive tackle Darvin Taylor II confirmed via Twitter on Friday that his football career is over.

Taylor, who has endured numerous shoulder injuries and surgeries during his three-year career, has been medically disqualified by team doctors. That means he will remain on scholarship but no longer count against the Seminoles' 85-scholarship limit.

As a four-star recruit in 2015, Taylor was one of the top players from the state of Virginia and the nation's No. 18 defensive tackle. The four-star prospect chose the Seminoles over Florida, Clemson, Maryland and others.

Because of the injuries, Taylor never recorded a tackle in a game but performed well in the 2017 spring game.

In his message on social media, Taylor said he plans to stay at Florida State to finish his degree and continue helping with the football team.

Taylor is one of a handful of veteran players who are not expected back next season under new head coach Willie Taggart. Backup quarterback J.J. Cosentino has reportedly decided to leave FSU after the spring semester, and reserve offensive linemen David Robbins and Ethan Frith are leaving the team as well.
