For Aguayo and Tyler, the goal is to turn criticism into composure

Sophomore placekicker Ricky Aguayo is aware of the scrutiny he's faced from Florida State fans. He just chooses to ignore it all.

His teammate and sophomore punter, Logan Tyler, is quite the opposite. Tyler embraces what some FSU fans have said about him on Twitter. He once collected every critical tweet and wrote them on his dry-erase board, where they served as a reminder.

At least until his girlfriend erased them all.

"I would read them every morning in spring, and she came and visited and erased every one of them," Tyler said. "I think there was one that like, 'We can't find a better punter than Logan Tyler?' or something like that. Somebody called me 'garbage,' and it didn't get to me. I don't like to let defeat fuel the fire, but it was just like, 'I'm going to prove you wrong.'

"It wasn't me getting fired up. It was just me like, 'OK. That's a challenge that I have, and something that I need to prove wrong.'"

The No. 3 FSU football team is a strong candidate to reach the College Football Playoff in 2017. Aguayo and Tyler know what's at stake and are taking numerous measures to improve upon their mixed freshman campaigns from a year ago.

They came to FSU as two of the nation's top three kicking prospects last season. Aguayo, however, came to Tallahassee with more pressure than Tyler. He was replacing his older brother, Roberto, who left FSU as one of the greatest kickers in college football history.
