Greg Frey is coming back to Tallahassee.

The former Florida State lineman, who spent the last year at Michigan as the tackles and tight ends coach, is returning to his alma mater as the new offensive line coach. He replaces Rick Trickett, who manned the position for the last 11 seasons.

The hiring was reported Thursday by Fox college sports reporter Bruce Feldman.

Ironically, this is the second time Frey has replaced Trickett. He also took over the West Virginia offensive line coaching duties after Trickett left Morgantown to take the Florida State job back in 2007.

After coaching at West Virginia for a year under Rich Rodriguez, Frey moved to Ann Arbor with Rodriguez and coached the Wolverines' offensive line for three seasons. In 2011, after Rodriguez was fired, Frey moved to Indiana, where he coached for the next six years before returning to Michigan this past season.

Frey's first coaching job was in 1996 as a graduate assistant, helping launch South Florida's football program. He coached with the Bulls for 11 years - the last seven as the offensive line coach.

As a player at FSU, Frey earned three letters and was a part of the 1993 national championship team. When he came out Clearwater in 1991 he was considered by many recruiting analysts to be the top offensive lineman in the country.

According to his bio on the Michigan official web site, Frey has coached 20 offensive linemen who have gone on to play in the NFL.
