Florida State already had some solid recruiting momentum going from the commitments of two four-star defensive players last weekend.

But this news might be even bigger.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Seminoles landed a huge commitment from Seffner (Fla.) Armwood wide receiver Warren Thompson, who chose the Seminoles over South Carolina. Thompson made his announcement at his school.

"I picked FSU because of the relationships I had with the staff. I'm so comfortable with them," Thompson told Warchant.com. "Plus I know there's a great chance to come in and make an impact."

Thompson not only helps the 'Noles fill a major need at wide receiver, but he also ends a lengthy drought for FSU when it comes to landing prospects from the talent-rich Armwood program.

Florida State had several factors working in its favor this time around. Thompson grew up loving the Seminoles, plus he had a longstanding relationship with new FSU head coach Willie Taggart and assistant coach Raymond Woodie. Thompson actually was committed to them and Oregon before they left Eugene, Ore., for Tallahassee.

"Coach Woodie has been there from the start," Thompson said. "I could call him anytime and talk about anything. I'm the closest with him and Coach Taggart, so it's a great situation.

"I can't talk to a lot of coaches like I do with Coach Taggart and Coach Woodie."

Thompson certainly gave other schools a chance as he took visits to Tennessee and South Carolina. The Gamecocks visit seemed to have the biggest impact of the two, but in the end it wasn't enough to sway Thompson away from the 'Noles.

Thompson, who was a standout performer at FSU's Jimbo Fisher camp last summer, is rated the nation's No. 14 wide receiver. He fielded offers from Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, LSU and many others.

"I'm ready for it. I'm going to hit the ground running and get to work," Thompson said of his goal of playing early for the Seminoles. "It's hard work that pushes me, so I'm ready."

Thompson, who said he now checks in at 6-foot-3 1/2 and 202 pounds, is the second four-star wide receiver commitment in this class, joining Daytona Beach's D'Marcus Adams. He is the Seminoles' 15th commitment and pushes the class up to No. 16 nationally.

Thompson said he believes this 2018 class will be "special," even though Taggart and his staff got a late start.

"I've always said when I was little, 'I'm going to FSU,'" Thompson said. "It's big to go to my dream school. So it's like I'm coming home. This class is going to be very special. It's huge."

The Seminoles aren't done with Armwood now that the drought is over; they are major players for both DE Malcolm Lamar and LB James Miller. Thompson said he is hoping to play with both of them at the next level, and he added that all three of them will be on FSU's campus this weekend.

Thompson and Lamar will be on unofficial visits, while Miller will be taking his official.
