No. 2-ranked safety Kamari Wilson enjoys FSU trip, looks ahead to official

One of the highest-rated players in the nation stopped by Florida State's campus on Wednesday. And now that safety Kamari Wilson has visited in person, he says FSU “most definitely” improved its position with him.

Wilson was one of four prospects to visit Wednesday from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, and the Seminoles already have commitments from two of their teammates -- four-star quarterback A.J. Duffy and four-star offensive lineman Aliou Bah. FSU also just finished up hosting several others, including four-star running back Kaytron Allen.

If Wilson were to jump on board with the Seminoles, the talented safety would be the highest-ranked out of all of them.

After wrapping up his visit, Wilson said he enjoyed seeing Florida State’s facilities as well as gaining a better understanding of how the coaching staff will develop and utilize him.

“I’ve noticed that it's all about work, work, work," Wilson said. "And that’s all I do is work. It would be great to be here. They can develop me at the highest level."

The nation's No. 2-ranked safety said he and FSU head coach Mike Norvell had a “great conversation,” during which Norvell explained how the Seminoles will make it back to the top of the college football mountain.

Wilson also appreciated getting to spend time with his possible position coach in FSU defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson.

“He’s a great dude. Me and him kinda got a really good relationship, probably deeper than football,” Wilson said. “I know that he can definitely develop me at the highest level as well.”

Along with the FSU coaches, Wilson acknowledged there's another person playing a big factor in his recruitment -- fellow Rivals100 prospect and FSU commit Travis Hunter.

“Oh yeah, you know, Travis is a recruiter," Wilson said. "He is Florida State’s recruiter. He is practically an alumni right now."

The possibility of playing with Hunter and another Rivals100 DB (and FSU commit) in Sam McCall has Wilson very intrigued.

“I want to play around the best players, and Travis and Sam are two of the best players," he said. "I would love to get to play with them. We have all just been talking about how we can play together at the next level.”

A freshman class featuring all three elite DB prospects would be huge for Florida State in 2022, and Wilson compared it to the 2013 freshman class that helped the Seminoles win the national title.

“It kinda makes me think about how Jalen Ramsey’s class was and how they have many great defensive backs. We could really bring that back, that atmosphere,” Wilson said. “It would just be crazy because Florida State could be back at it again.”

An official visit to FSU is in the cards for Wilson, and his target date is the season opener versus Notre Dame. He said things are still up in the air depending on IMG Academy’s game that week, but he's hoping that will be the date.

Wilson also wants to make his college choice “even sooner” than he had planned originally. He currently has FSU in his top six and explained why the Seminoles made a leap following the visit.

“I really could tell that the coaches were honest,” Wilson said. “The way that they coach is the way that I like to be coached. Hard.”
