Where to start: With the struggles of an ace? A bullpen that didn't have any control? Cold Notre Dame bats that instantly heated up?

The Fighting Irish pounded out 15 hits, including seven home runs, and capitalized on nine FSU walks in a 16-9 win over the No. 4 Seminoles on Friday night.

FSU held a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth when the floodgates opened. Notre Dame struck for a pair of home runs in a five-run inning and then added eight runs in the eighth inning.

The Seminoles (21-4, 5-2 ACC) tried to keep up on a day that resembled Home Run Derby, cranking out six shots. Max Williams had a two-run home run, while Myles Bailey had a pair of solo home runs.

Alex Lodise, Cal Fisher and Hunter Carns also had solo home runs. Lodise went 3 for 5 and raised his average to .481.

If pitching and defense travel, it did not on Friday.

FSU's ace, Jamie Arnold, was back in his role but struggled from the start. He stranded the bases loaded in the first without allowing a run and exited after 4.2 innings with the bases loaded and a 4-2 lead. Arnold had four strikeouts, gave up four walks and hit a batter on 94 pitches (56 strikes).

Peyton Prescott got a strikeout to end the fifth. But he was tagged for four runs in one inning of work. Maison Martinez (0-1) came in to relieve him, pitching for the first time in weeks, but he allowed four runs (three earned) in 1.1 innings.

Brady Louck allowed a run without recording an out, while Ben Barrett gave up five runs in .1 innings.

FSU also had two errors, one apiece by Lodise and Fisher.

Jared Zimbardo had a home run and two doubles to lead Notre Dame.

The Seminoles were coming off a road series win over Miami and a ninth-inning rally to defeat Florida in Jacksonville.
