With Florida State landing graduate transfer quarterback Alex Hornibrook on Sunday morning, we reached out to our colleagues at the Wisconsin Rivals site, BadgerBlitz.com, to get a better idea of what Hornibrook has to offer.
Special thanks to Jon McNamara, publisher of BadgerBlitz, for providing this insight for our readers.
Warchant: What can you tell us about what kind of quarterback Hornibrook is? Style of play, mentality, leadership, arm strength and accuracy?
McNamara: Hornibrook is very much a pro-style quarterback with very limited mobility. He committed to Paul Chryst while he was the head coach at Pittsburgh and came with him to Wisconsin just days before Signing Day in the 2015 cycle. With that, those two have always had a very strong bond and Chryst has shown a strong commitment to him from the very beginning.
Hornibrook doesn't have a huge arm, but the lefty is accurate when he gets into a groove. He's benefited from an excellent running game and offensive line during his time as a starter in Madison, but he's likely never had the type of weapons at receiver that Florida State can offer. He doesn't seem to be a great fit, scheme-wise, for the Seminoles now, but you could do a lot worse at this stage of the game in the graduate QB market.
Hornibrook had a lot of Wisconsin fans salivating after he diced up Miami's defense in the Orange Bowl to cap off the 2017 season. But he was just too inconsistent this past fall and the concussions were an issue midway through the year. I wouldn't label him a vocal leader - more of someone who leads by example. That said, I don't think he was ever going to be a team captain.
