Florida State athletics is using some of its cost savings on the Doak Campbell Stadium renovation to improve fans' game day experience in 2025.
FSU is replacing its large Jumbotron in the north end zone as well as video displays around the stadium ahead of the home opener with Alabama on Aug. 30. The north end zone video board had displayed video during the 2024 season but often had pixels that didn't work.
The school has partnered with Formetco of Duluth, Ga., to install state-of-the-art video boards throughout the stadium. This project includes replacing all 11 ribbon boards, spanning more than 1,270 feet, along with the north scoreboard (57 feet x 120 feet) and the south scoreboard (35 feet x 75 feet), the school announced in a statement on Thursday.
"These enhancements will not only improve the gameday atmosphere for our passionate fans but also allow us to expand the versatility of the venue," FSU athletics director Michael Alford said. "Whether it's for FSU Athletics or other special events held at Doak Campbell, these new displays will provide an unmatched high-quality visual experience that meets the demands of a modern, world-class stadium."
Alford said at a Board of Trustees meeting in February that he has been in discussions with promoters to bring concerts and motocross events to Doak. No performers or dates have yet been set.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this monumental project at Florida State University," said Jeff Huffman, Formetco's Director of Collegiate Partnerships. "FSU has one of the most enthusiastic fan bases in college football, and we are honored to contribute to the tradition of unforgettable gameday experiences at Doak Campbell Stadium. These video boards will ensure that every fan, whether in the upper deck or on the field, has an immersive and electrifying experience."
Doak is undergoing its most significant renovation in its history, a process that began in the winter of 2023 with phase 1. A second phase began after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
FSU officials went to the state's Board of Governors on Wednesday, requesting that savings from the renovation project be shifted toward the new video boards.
