Just when Florida State basketball fans are getting over the excitement of landing a pair of Rivals150 prospects earlier this month, the Seminoles added a fourth commitment to their 2015 class. Center Jean Marc Koumadje of Montverde Academy (Fla.) announced Monday he is headed to Florida State.
The 7-foot-4, 200-pound prospect chose the 'Noles over Tennessee, UCLA and Connecticut.
If there's one team that knows about size, it's Florida State. Head coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff's history of developing players at that size certainly didn't hurt their chances.
Koumadje took an official visit to Florida State in early September, along with recent commitments five-star forward Dwayne Bacon of Oak Hill Academy (Va.) and four-star guard Malik Beasley of St. Francis (Ga.). Bacon and Koumadje play on the same AAU team - Florida Showtime Ballers.
Throughout the recruiting process, many believed UCLA might hold the upper hand, but that wasn't the case after visiting Florida State earlier this month and spending time with fellow 7-footers Michael Ojo and Boris Bojanosky, along with the third 7-footer Kiel Turpin, who will be a senior this year. Koumadje felt right at home, and that seemed to be the big difference maker.
Koumadje has massive range as a shot-blocker and is quite athletic for his size. His shot-blocking prowess is what really attracted some of the major schools, along with his ability to run the floor and finish. His offensive game can get stronger, but the same could be said for Boris Bojanosky when he arrived at Florida State.
He gives the 'Noles another major defensive asset and also a big man that can run the floor. Koumadje, who is from the African nation Senegal, becomes the fourth commitment in the 2015 class and is likely the final piece to the puzzle. The first commitment that began the spark was four-star forward Terance Mann.
The long reach of Koumadje is quite impressive, but he's also burst onto the scene with a development of a short jumper inside the lane, and that was on display earlier this year at the Reebok Classic in July. Since then, his recruitment took off. He caps off what is expected to be a top-five class nationally for the 'Noles.
