FSU linebacker signees come in different shapes, but share similarities
If the makeup of Florida State’s 2017 linebacker signing class shows one thing, it’s that the Seminoles don’t take a cookie-cutter approach to recruiting players at that position.
Three-star legacy recruit DeCalon Brooks, the son of FSU Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks, is undersized for a linebacker and could actually end up playing safety or nickelback.
Four-star Leonard Warner, the nation’s No. 5-rated inside linebacker, is massive for that position at 6-foot-4 and nearly 240 pounds.
And three-star Adonis Thomas comes from the junior college ranks, where he showed the ability to come off the edge as a pass-rusher and also cover backs and tight ends in space.
But FSU linebackers coach Bill Miller said the three signees also have a couple of important factors in common -- they are all extremely athletic and highly intelligent.
“This is a great group of guys,” Miller said. “Really, really excited.“
