Florida State lost one of its most cherished voices this past weekend as retired Doak Campbell Stadium public address announcer Nick Menacof died following a brief illness. Menacof's passing was confirmed Monday afternoon by an FSU spokesman.

Menacof, who also was a huge FSU fan and supporter of Seminole athletics, was the P.A. announcer at Doak for 25 years, from the mid-1980s through 2009. According to an article on Warchant when he retired, Menacof said he never missed a home game during those seasons.

"Twenty-five years is a round number," Menacof said at the time of his retirement. "I'll miss it, the kids and people you work with."

Menacof also stayed connected with FSU athletes in other ways. For years, he supervised the student-athletes who lived in Burt Reynolds Hall. He also worked as part of a local crew of football officials who provided officiating for FSU's practices.

The staff at Warchant offers our condolences to Nick Menacof's friends and family.
