Florida State Women’s Basketball returns to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., in the 2023-24 season, facing UCLA on Dec. 10 at the 10th Annual Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase.
The matchup between perennial NCAA Tournament qualifiers FSU and UCLA is part of an exciting tripleheader that also includes South Carolina vs. Utah and UConn vs. North Carolina.
“This is always such a special event for our program,” FSU coach Brooke Wyckoff said. “We will be playing at the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase for the fourth time in the last nine seasons. Each time the experience of playing at the Mohegan Sun is tremendous. We’re looking forward once again to this opportunity.”
The Seminoles played UConn this past season at The Showcase, and will play at Mohegan Sun in consecutive seasons for the first time ever. FSU faced Michigan in 2019 as well as UConn in 2015.
“We are thrilled to expand the showcase to six teams this year, which includes a number of women’s college basketball’s elite programs,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. “We look forward to welcoming these teams and their fans at one of the most exciting tournaments of the year.”
Florida State and UCLA will be meeting on the hardwood for the first time ever. The matchup includes UCLA coach Cori Close, who spent seven seasons as FSU’s Associate Head Coach under the guidance of FSU legend Sue Semrau. In 2011, Close became the head coach at UCLA, creating an opening on Semrau’s staff that was filled by Wyckoff.
“We look forward to welcoming these six storied programs to Mohegan Sun Arena to take part in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase,” added Jen Rizzotti, President of the Connecticut Sun. "We’re honored to be able to offer world class facilities to some of the best college women’s basketball programs in the country and are thrilled that they will be able to play in front of the some of the most passionate basketball fans you’ll encounter anywhere. Mark this date on your calendar because this is competition you won’t want to miss."
The Seminoles are coming off a strong 2022-23 campaign where they reached their 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament and tied for fourth in the ACC regular season. Florida State has a 12-player roster in 2023-24 headlined by reigning Consensus National Freshman of the Year Ta’Niya Latson and All-ACC returnee Makayla Timpson.
FSU’s game vs. UCLA on Dec. 10 is the first announced matchup for the Seminoles in the 2023-24 season. More game announcements will be made throughout the summer as FSU prepares for another promising season.
